a facebook posting from mark snow's page says: "Just one more thing before 2012. A very special thanks to the guys over at La-La-Land-Records, for making a dream come true with the "X-Files Volume 1"-Box-Set. And of course a very special thanks to all the fans out there, who were there when the time had come. The first set did well in sales, in fact, of the 3000 units, that were made, there are only 200 units left by now. So a big THANK YOU to all the fans, who bought the set, it´s because of you that we will see Volume 2 in 2012. And if you didn´t buy it until now, get the last 200 sets before it´s too late. " so pick it up while you can and I am oh so happy to know that there appears to be no likely delay in the next volume. a calendar year at most to go!

So few left, with a definite Volume 2 coming next year? I suppose I'll be adding one of these to my order for Batman Forever on Tuesday. Now if only we could be assured of a Volume 2 for LLL's Star Trek:TNG set (Vol. 2 could be DS9, VOY, or ENT music rather than more TNG)... but given the relatively poor sales, I fear we may have seen our last bit of Trek TV music on CD in a long while.

Poor sales because the music is generally bland and best relegated as background to those episodes on TV? I think a box set of TOS would sell like hotcakes (because the music is more memorable and listenable) How many themes from any of the post TOS series stick in your mind like the Kirk/Spock AMOK TIME fight scene?

Well, I personally find the scores for DS9 and Voyager (especially the later seasons of both) to be a little more exciting and less restricted stylistically than the TNG scores, so I would think they would sell better.

The theme from "The Inner Light" seems fairly popular, assuming your question wasn't rhetorical. But what you've said is opinion; probably with a healthy dose of nostalgia thrown in since you're old enough (according to your profile) to have grown up watching TOS rather than TNG. But it's an opinion you have every right to. I, on the other hand, grew up watching TNG. And even then, I wasn't quite old enough to begin watching when it premiered. I wasn't a regular viewer until midway through season 3, at which time I would've been 7 (or a couple months away). The music in FSM's Ron Jones set brings back a lot of childhood memories for me, and it isn't nearly so "bland" that I've ever had a problem placing most cues upon listening to them. I enjoy TOS music as well, though. I have all the TOS CD releases, including the Varese and Label X re-recordings. I certainly wouldn't object to more. But I still think the relatively poor sales of existing Trek TV releases will have some impact on any future potential release, whichever series the music is from. Maybe not as much of an impact as it might have if a larger, less personal label were in charge of the decision. If that were the case, they'd simply consider all Star Trek under the same umbrella, regardless of series, taking poor sales of one as an indicator of how any other might do. In most other matters, Trek fans aren't exactly known for being the most discriminating of consumers (i.e. they'll buy pretty much anything with the Trek label), after all. But since labels like Intrada or LLL tend to take more notice and communicate much more closely with their customers, I hope they'll eventually release some more music from Trek TV series (TOS and Enterprise is what I'm most interested at this point). But I think any future releases will start out as more cautious ones than either the Ron Jones box or even LLL's 3-disc TNG set.
