I've had this series waiting to be watched for a while now. With series 2 just around the corner, I thought I'd better get a wiggle on. I binged through 6 of them over the past 24 hours. The first 4 were very good, episode 5 was pretty good, and then episode 6 was terrible (the prison ship one). Noticeably, the writing credits for 6 didn't feature Favreau or Filoni (as the previous 5 did) and boy was that obvious. A stupid plot, awful characters doing really dumb things. Just shockingly bad. I left it there, but hopefully, the last two eps will return to form. The music grew on me with each passing ep, although I still found it a bit hit and miss. As is usual for me with LG, the best bits sound like warmed up Bill Conti. I loved the story board end credits sequences at the end of each episode. Really cool. The whole thing has the feel of the SOLO film for me, which is my favourite of the new STAR WARS Disney series. Pretty solid stuff overall so far...7/10. Interesting, for me the episodes written by Faverau were the worst ones. Helmet dude meets a guy. Goes to far flung location. Has a shootout. That ( to me ) seemed to be Faverau's idea every time. The episodes did get better as it goes, and for me Cara Dune was the best part of the series. It wasn't a total write off, but I sure didn't get the overall love for it. The action ( again , when Faverau was in charge ) was poorly staged and shot, the blaster shoot outs were just ... there . The music was just awful. Not that it didn't sound like Star Wars, but it just didn't really do anything to support the drama or the action. Then again, I've not really liked what I'd heard from Goransson so far anyway ). But we DO agree that Solo was the best of the new SW/ Disney films so far. Tonight I'll check out season 2, kinda excited to see Timothy Olyphant in this universe.

In order to heat up the trolling contest about the Disney Star Wars era, I'd say every single Star Wars thing Disney produced is at best mediocre. And when it comes to The Mandalorian, apart for the music, which, despite what Totoro says, is the real highlight of the whole new SW franchise, this show is empty and poor AF. Every single episode reminds me of the Ewoks TV movies and of the Desktop Game "Yoda Stories", Where it's just a series of side quests where the main character has to go fetch an item and then fetch another while helping a community to get rid of a local villain. No character development. Only fan service overdose. It sure looks pretty, but it's just poop wrapped in aluminum foil to me. Too bad cause I genuinely hopped this show would be a fresh and daring take on the SW universe. I agree with you, except for the music, which is in the same level of the show as you described, only worst.

It's that serialised, episodic "tune in next week!" adventure feel that I really like. Star Wars was always supposed to be like that, wasn't it? I'd argue "Mando" does a better job of it than some of the movies (largely in part to being a TV show and not theatrical movies, naturally). Funny you mention (Baby) Yoda Stories though - that gave me a real flashback! Musically, I think Goransson's work is great in being different enough, and has that tribal feel to represent Mandalorian culture - but the main theme does still break into brassy fanfare at the end. EDIT: Just removed the YouTube embed.
