Coincidentally on Elfman's 67th birthday. "You wanna run me down, go ahead. You can be as mean and hurtful as you want, but this is the last time you will ever hit me! You do it again, one of us is goin' to the boneyard!" Dolores Claiborne: The Deluxe Edition (2-CD) - Danny Elfman Surprised how short and rushed the liner notes were for the album. I know the liner notes for Varese Deluxe Edition titles aren't as thorough as other specialty labels', but it seemed like a couple of pages were missing. The liner notes didn't really get into the production of the movie, how Elfman got involved, etc. However, the person who wrote the liner notes is currently writing a book about the music of Friday The 13th movies so I'm looking forward to that at least. Hopefully that'll be very in depth and thorough since I'm a fan of those scores as well. Another nitpick is that according to Varese the album's total runtime is about 90 minutes long (including about 9 minutes combined of three alternate tracks). I remember from the liner notes of Elfman's Music For A Darkened Theatre: Film & Television Music Volume Two compilation of Dolores Claiborne he mentioned he wrote over 100 minutes of music. So I'm not sure if this album contains the entire score. Even though it's been many years since I've sat through and watched the whole movie. Aside from that (and the sub-par cropped album art) I enjoyed Elfman's bleak, melancholic, and very complex score, which I'm happy to have in my collection finally. Dolores Claiborne was definitely a turning point in Elfman's career. Both the movie (from what I remember) and score are underrated, imo.
