As much as I love the original Jaws, I always thought Jaws 2 was a much better score,as I thought Empire Strikes Back is better than Star Wars. The expanded Universal Jaws from 2000,is an excellent listen, and never really thought to buy the Intrada edition, although I’m sure it is excellent also.

Wow! The repressing is out of stock already! That didn't take long. Either Intrada pressed a tiny batch or there were many, many people waiting to order it. Hope everyone who wanted a copy managed to get it...

Considering what score this is, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Intrada pressed like 2000 and they already all disappeared. (After all we know that Hook and the Bond expansions have been selling almost this fast for LLL recently.) I know so many people have been awaiting this re-pressing for a really long time.

Yavar

Apparently I've been living under a rock - I didn't even know that the Bonds got expanded. Looks like Neil has been busy. smile

The Decca Jaws sounds like it was recorded in a closet. The Intrada easily trumps it (despite being a lousy recording in general).

What I wouldn't give for a true stereo recording of this...

Something that's always puzzled me is the track Man Against Beast? On the decca album this track seems to be a different take. The intro differs, while there is also a flub note on the horns for the first appearance of the shark theme. It also seems to be supplemented with woodwinds on the Intrada version. The tempos throughout the cue seem to be a little different as well. This also seems to be the film version because you can definitley hear the flub note when watching. Well at least on the mono version of the film anyway. Maybe Neil, Mike or Roger could shed some light on this?

If memory serves, the awful sounding Decca mistakenly used the flub take, which is included and properly relegated on the Intrada as an Extra "alternate".

I remember my upset hearing the Decca cd in 2000! Especially...this cue.

I'm pretty sure the alternate version on the Intrada Edition is different again. It cuts to a different passage after " You're gonna need a bigger boat".

While the elements are multi-track, I believe it was mixed with the intention of being heard in mono. I’m sure Mike Matessino will clarify on this matter, as I have a strong feeling I’m probably wrong on that and the physical release is currently in storage so I can’t check offhand right now.

It's as stereo as it can be considering that the microphone setup was optimized for mono mixing. Mike did a phenomenal job of creating the most natural soundstage possible. The album is in true stereo.

I think you need a new sound system because no matter what you do to a recording back in 1975,you simply won’t get it sounding as good as it were recorded in 2024.John Williams did produce the Decca recording,to get the best possible sound from an old recording. The more you fiddle with the original recording the more it losers it’s original sound. You seem to be talking a lot of rubbish concerning the Decca recording. I’m involved in sound recording ,so I do have more knowledge than probably you have. The only way to get a perfect recording of the score,If it would satisfy you would be to hire The London Symphony and get John Williams to record a brand new digital recording,Maybe that might make you happy.

Sorry George, who exactly are you replying to? Because I wasn't even talking about sound quality. I was talking about the differences in the cue Man Against Beast?

You said the AWFUL SOUNDING DECCA,and and I replied to that, you said it if you check your text..Quote “awful sounding Decca “ you said it,no one else.John Williams, helped produce that album,I would say he would know a little more than you,and was obviously more than happy with the Decca recording.

No reflection on you Steve, but you have not a clue to what you are talking about. The original recording is 50 years old, you can only do so much with old recordings before they lose that original sound. It may very well sound better, but it starts to sound totally different. The Origin recorded LP still Sounds better with crackles and pops than a remastered CD that doesn’t have that background sound.

George
I will repeat once again! If you could read the above posts. I was not talking about the sound quality of the album but in fact the differences between different versions of a particular cue! Other board members may have suggested the issue of sound quality, (and only a disappointment in it) and that's their prerogative. But it was not I. So it would seem in this case that it is you that has no clue of what you talk about.
