You got me folks!

I've been reading this thread for quite a while.

I have seen both movies and own the Tadlow release of Conan The Barbarian.

But people are so enthusiastic about Conan The Destroyer, so fond of this music, that I had to order both: The 3 CD release from Conan The Barbarian from Intrada and the actual Conan The Destroyer.

Now I am curios, especially regarding "The Destroyer" ... .

Never heard the score or watched the film, but the music is really good.

How can you say that when you've never heard the score?

I read that as "never heard the score before", which would be my experience too.

I finally placed my order! I might even get this by Xmas.

You know it's Christmastime when Solium's avatar turns to Max, the Grinch's favorite reindeer!

big grin

Adam's is a nice treat too.

Hey, I have to talk about something as my Intrada order is waiting too for backorders yet to arrive. Like Nicole, I expect it'll be January for me, since I'm betting they'll close for a week just when the new orders come in!

I ordered mine from MM since they had this and Red Sonja in stock. So I jumped on it.

Whoops. Never heard it before until yesterday. Surprised how much I enjoyed it.

My order never arrived . frown Usps says it left Heathrow on the 16th, Royal mail says leaving US on 14th. Best of all, some tracking app says left LA, went to Warsaw, then to new York, then to London and lastly, so far, back to Miami!!!! Probably stuck in a snow drift.

My Intrada box only arrived this week, Damian, 5 weeks after it was posted!!

You've only got yourself to blame, Postman Pat.

My Conan has at least arrived in England now, but won't get delivered till next Wednesday at the earliest.

That'll make it three weeks in transiit. It used to take one week between the US and UK, but unfortunately international shipping, as well as becoming painfully expensive, has gotten painfully slow too.

All one can do is wait and be patient. I will wait patiently!

big grin

Cheers

You're lucky there isn't a middle finger symbol. smile
It's probably in the back of a lorry riding round the M25.

“He did not care any more… bass and treble: the same. Only that the audio files would be there to greet him with waveforms of peaks and valleys.”

Finally have this and gave it a spin. Two things really stand out.

First: Wow, he recycled an awful lot from Conan the Barbarian!
Don't ever tell me about Horner's self plagiarizing again!

Second: This is a fun listen. I love the score!

Basil’s recycling on this was an absolute necessity, considering he was apparently given only a week to both write AND record the score.

I didn’t know that. And here I thought a two week schedule was ridiculous.

Man, I absolutely love "Chamber of Mirrors." This has to be one of my favorite Basil Poledouris cues.

Wow! And I thought the 10 days Waxman had to write and record A Christmas Carol was absurd (granted, he had some help there, but still).

Same here. Fantastic track!

Overall, I find myself liking Conan the Destroyer in its expanded form more than the Barbarian expansion actually. Barbarian drags a bit in the middle to me and is much more somber and regal whereas Destroyer has better pacing as a listening experience and is more adventurous and energetic. It reminds me of the differences between Poledouris' two RoboCop scores.

Agreed, this one gets repeat plays and I will even say I vastly prefer the re-recording to the original soundtrack recording ("Crystal Palace" on the LP). It's slower, which I usually don't like, but for this cue it works. And the recording quality is to die for.

I'm in agreement here as well, it's the standout cue of the score and while I love both the film version and the Prague recording, I seem to return to the latter more often.

The Destroyer expansion is a better companion piece to the Varèse Barbarian than the Intrada…
