So Cameron wanted sh*tty action music. That’s always been his thing.
I’ll give you that in respect of his three Brad Fiedel-scored flicks but….. Aliens shitty action music music? The Abyss shitty action music? Titanic shitty action music? Avatar shitty action music? Seriously? Do you really hate Horner and Silvestri that much?

I hate neither and a huge fan of both, but I think Cameron brings out the worst in Horner and Silvestri and their association with him are way down my list of favorite scores by those composers.
Ive learned to appreciate much of Titanic and Avatar but they were crushing blows when I first heard them. Though in fairness to Horner much of the best action music in Avatar hasn't been released.
I'm still waiting for someone to tell where the great action cues are in Avatar 2 because they don't exist. Just droning percussion. Look at my "fan edit", most of the action music was deleted. The few I kept are barely passable.
And no I didn't hate everything Franglen did, "Leaving Home" and "Sanctuary" are amazing.
I'm not a big Cameron fan regarding his storytelling and think AVATAR is one of the most inflated nothing there is....but when it comes to action and technical innovation he is a giant.I can only think of Peter Jackson and Spielberg....I consider ALIENS one of the best and most clever sequels in film history along with THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and THE GODFATHER 2 and its one _if not the_ best Horner scores.

I totally agree. Ive only seen Avatar once in the theater and never on home video. But I did catch the last act on television last year. The "war" at the end was just exhilarating and brilliant filmed. Very exciting. I can hardly say that about any other action sequence Ive seen in almost 15 years.
I read all the comments about the action music being lacklustre and too modern and adjusted my expectations accordingly. Happily I have no complaints about it, in fact I'm enjoying all the music especially after hearing it in context twice. This is my favourite score of the decade thus far, and unless something radical happens in the industry within the next few years I expect it will remain so (or perhaps Avatar 3 will supplant it).
I've been listening to the shorter album version of this score, not the expanded, and am surprised to be enjoyed much of it. I find the action cues to be quite rollicking and compelling. I'm not a fan of all the high pitched vocals, but then they always annoyed me in Horner's original score too. But the mix of new and old themes makes for a great listen, at least for the 70+ minute album.

I agree, (other than the vocals part which I love), in fact I've skipped the expanded album initially and have been listening to the shorter one almost daily since it released. It's a really great album with nary a dull moment.
A couple of posts back there was a news about Franglen asking the fans what physical edition they would want and CDs were winning by a large margin. So studios should pay attention - at least if they want my money...
There are 4-5 sites that list the CD on preorder but the date varies (either 20 or 27 January). However none of the major onlie stores list is yet. I'm still hoping for the CD release, in spite of this.
