Here ya go Kev — should be shipping soon:
https://mondoshop.com/products/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-rings-of-power-season-one-original-soundtrack-2xcd

But you might want to hold out for the 8CD set. smile

That said, the Season One set has a lot of good exclusive tracks which weren’t composed to picture.

Thanks Yavar. smile
Yeah, I'd read that he'd done some concert versions of the primary themes, so that will be essential to ones collection too.

If - IF - Rings Of Power has a dearth of theatrical dialogue reflective of Tolkien's writing, perhaps the Tolkien Estate should have re-thought not licensing and thereby allowing access to the Silmarillion works. To Tolkien's writing.

Not saying it does - I have not seen it... yet - I'm just tossing it out there.

(Although, perhaps the Silmarillion does not possess such, as an apparently loose collection of yarns written in different styles? source=wikipedia)

It's perfectly clear Amazon only wanted the name "The Lord of the Rings" and the built in audience that would bring. It didn't give a fig about faithfully adapting the Legendarium.

Can you provide a track listing of the CD set, complete with track duration? (a photo of the back tray or booklet page with the contents would do just as fine, as well)

The Silmarillion is basically the "Middle Earth Handbook", it is a collection of tales and ideas and myths the characters in the "later" stories (Hobbit and Lord of the Rings) refer to, believe in, or sprang from. It was never meant to be a standalone work. Tolkien spend years and years, meticulously figuring out who the cultures and folks of Middle Earth were, where they came from, how they lived, what they believed in, etc., and the Silmarillion is a collection of all these tales and myths. Tolkien's Middle Earth is constructed "in depth", and not just a run-of-the-mill fantasy land where you make it up as you go.

Yes, Nerd Of The Rings videos (!) showcase that. I'd recommend those videos, btw. smile Given the variety (?) of writ therein, if there are not some moments of dramatic dialogue to draw upon, then perhaps the context of critics' complaints needs a bit of tempering. Just a bit.

That is the spirit of my ponderance, I suppose.

Speaking of Nerd Of The Rings, I recommend the fascinating video on Tolkien's post-LOTR story bit. Intriguing. I understand his reasoning for not following through, yet another epic tale there would have been interesting.

The characters in this show speak pretty much as they did in the Peter Jackson films.
It's all very theatrical and pronounced, with most lines being delivered as statements and/or words of wisdom.
And the cultures all have accents...with the dwarves being Scottish, the Harfoots being of Irish lilt, the South Lands largely northern England sounding, the Orcs are Cockneys...and so on.
The Elves and Numenor just sound like posh people and southern softies wink

As someone who doesn't care for the series but likes Mr. Mc - is the double disc going to be readily available?

It's available now from Mondo direct, but it will cost us Brits around 45 quid, cos of the $20 shipping and bad conversion rate.
Amazon were due to get it in stock this month, but it's been delayed til November.
I imagine it will be much cheaper to buy from Amazon UK.

The photo needs to be hosted somewhere else, you can then use the square brackets with "i".

The special codes on this forum and how to use them are listed here: https://filmscoremonthly.com/board/specials.cfm

(You will also find the link "Special Code Legend" when you are in edit/post mode on the forum.)

Thanks for the helpful replies. I just entered the CD into the Discogs site, including a scan of the back cover image:

https://www.discogs.com/release/24874304-Bear-McCreary-The-Lord-Of-The-Rings-The-Rings-Of-Power-Season-One-Amazon-Original-Series-Soundtrack

Sorry about the less-than-optimal resolution on the CD back cover.

Cheers.

Well, 9 hours later and THAT was a BLAST!!
A Feast for the Eyes...and Ears.
Bear McCreary really brought his A Game to the show and if this doesn't cement his place at the Top Table, nothing will.
The music was every bit as good as the Howard Shore scores for the original trilogy and I actually thought I'd been transported back a few decades while listening to a lot (most) of it.
I can see it going on to become an enduring classic.
While I'm not steeped in LOTR lore and maybe I don't know what I'm Tolkien about, but I found the whole thing to be quite fitting and respectful to what I've seen before from this material.
It's quite easy to guess who that mysterious big fella is gonna go on to be.
There's always the dodgy 'how are they so powerful from so little and how do they travel from here to there so fast' situations that go on in all of these fantasy shows, which one will use to beat it if you don't like it and just move on if you do.
But it all pretty much worked for me.
As Yavar said above, it got SO MUCH right as opposed to any wrong foots, that it was more than worth the journey.
And THAT music...bloody 'ell.
Bring on Series Two (just started filming in the UK).

Well said, Mr. Mc. I haven't settled my opinion on the season overall yet. It was compelling enough to keep me watching, but there are elements that definitely don't hold up upon further reflection, and I'm not steeped in Tolkien lore. The score, though, is an absolute masterpiece. McCreary's catalogue of themes is mithril-solid and Balrog-deep, and it's no exaggeration to say that a lesser score would have dampened my enthusiasm for the show. (That certainly happened with OBI-WAN.) He has masterfully extended Shore's leitmotivic approach, and if his catalogue isn't quite as deep or nuanced as Shore's (at least, not yet), it's every bit as emotionally involving and fun to listen to. This score is the one to beat this year.
