Ha, ha...good one -- even if he doesn't have a middle name, as far as I know (it sounds more 'posh' that way, though). Except Towner, of course.

David is his real middle name. No kidding.

Now that's something I've never heard before!

Me neither. I'd be curious to know where you've read or heard this.

It wouldn't be surprising, since David is a name that runs through the family on his mother's side, but I've never heard that it's Williams middle name.

Interesting archival John Williams travelogue score. Everybody has to start somewhere.

Those of you with a sharp eye might be able to catch a glimpse of the young John Williams in the crowd at 11:15-11:17.

Didn't see him in the crowd Ron, but I really think that's young Johnny rowing the boat on the right at 11:00 - 11:05 Looks like him to me. And is then that Johnny at 11:18 front of the boat shaking the blond's hand?

I always thought his middle name was Towner.

It is, but that's a second last name. I've never heard 'David' before as a second first name. I'm curious to hear where guvernor heard or read about this.

There is one figure in the crowd at 11:15 that may look a bit like Williams, but I can't say for sure. It's definitely not him rowing the boat. Ha, ha...people see young Williamses everywhere now, just because he did the music! smile

More info soon. Very possibly something related to his school years at Saint Mary's Nativity in Flushing, maybe something else I read somewhere. I will find out the source soon !

Seriously?

Just kidding, Thor.

Did you really look? With a magnifying glass, perhaps? Though I did look carefully at the film to see if young JW appeared in his US Air Force uniform as a cameo when they showed US and Canadian military, but I couldn't see him anywhere.

I just thought showing that mob scene of people would get a cheap laugh, a la "Where's Waldo?"

Yeah, I did look, and there's a guy in the middle of the crowd that looks kinda like young Williams. But like others here, I think I'm seeing what I want to see. I don't think he is anywhere to be found in the film itself, except on the soundtrack. smile

Thor and Williams historians here's the full story.

I confirm that David is indeed John Williams second first name.

I have the good fortune of keeping documents about John Williams.

A Sister from Saint Mary's Nativity school sent me docs years ago about Mr Williams.

He joined the school in september 1938 (class 1B). He graduated february 4, 1946. He received an award "Bishop Laughlin High School Scholarship" in English. The program I have clearly indicates John David Williams.

Feel free to contact me if you want more info.

That's intriguing. As I'm currently doing research on Williams between 1932-1958, I'd like to get in touch with you regarding this. How do I do so?

It seems those AF years might have been great prep for success on civvy street. St. Johns was Lindbergh's last geographical navigation fix before his DR flight over the sea. Know yourself.
