I've been working on a list like this on and off for years. Therefore, in no particular order:

THE BIG COUNTRY
BEN HUR
THE EGYPTIAN
THE ROBE
THE GHOST AND MRS.MUIR
CLEOPATRA
LOST HORIZON
HAWAII
QUO VADIS
THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE

This is all so subjective. Frankly, it seems to me all my favorite scores I heard before the age of 15. Also, notice that 6 take place in ancient times, while 3 others are from the turn of the 19th into the 20th centuries. Oddly enough, LOST HORIZON is the most modern of the lot. Which says more about my sensibility than my musical tastes. Ah well. "Such as we are made of, such we be..."

In no order and off the top of my head so i might be forgetting some and do TV scores count in your post? wink

1. Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier (Extremely underrated.)
2. Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan
3. Star Trek: First Sontact
4. Star Trek: Generations
5. JAWS (Probably the best ever.)
6. Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home
7. The Omega Man (Just simply amazing.)
8. DUEL
9. Titanic (Yeah yeah.)
And if TV shows count,
10. Star Trek: The Next Generation - "Yesterday's Enterprise" Very few scores have ever touched me so emotionally as this one. The episode it's self is powerful and memorable. Everytime i think about it it becomes more clear to me that that is perhaps the best TV show episode ever made.

Only 10?!

1. Dressed To Kill
2. North By Northwest
3. Hawaii
4. The Trouble With Angels
5. Obsession
6. The Fury
7. Carrie
8. The World of Henry Orient
9. The Mummy

The Trouble with Angels??!!?? has this ever been available commercially? I love this film to bits and pieces and think the score is a slice of comic perfection!

I love to prepare lists! Let's see

The Boy Who Could Fly (Bruce Broughton). Simple, subtle, lyrical, and contains one of the most beautiful melodies ever composed.

Suspiria (Goblin). Simple, in no way subtle, and yet no finer horror score has ever come to surface.

Superman (Williams). The perfect score to a perfect film.

A.I. (Williams). The perfect score to a flawed film.

The Ten Commandments (Bernstein). Ancient Egypt belongs to Bernstein alone. North, Goldsmith, and all the other wannabes can try a little harder.

Edward Scissorhands (Elfman). Choirs aah-aahing never sounded so goddamn pretty.

Flowers in the Attic (Young). Choirs aah-aahing never sounded so goddamn anguished.

The Omen (Goldsmith). Choirs worshipping Satan never sounded so evil.

Koyaanisqqatsi (Glass). I can't comment on the film, but the score is first class.

Joe vs the Volcano (Delerue). Criminally underhyped.

10) A Place in the Sun

Note: As you have probably guessed, ancient history is one of my hobbies.

THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS was originally released on lp on the Mainstream label, as I recall. It also was actually released on CD, but for so short a period of time that it has become a rare collector's item. (I have neither the lp or the CD, but a friend of mine once proudly showed me his CD copy, which he keeps safely hidden away. Very big deal.)

No particular order-

Star Trek: The Motion Picture
The Secret of NIMH
Star Wars
Superman: The Movie
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan
Empire Strikes Back
Bambi
Pinocchio
Conan the Barbarian
Independence Day

Surprised I only have one Horner in my list since I consider him my favorite composer. Also if I really thought about it there's probably several hundred other scores I could put in my top ten list. But these immediately came to mind as the best by these composers or studios.
