  • I finally saw this film from 1992 on youtube, with Oliver Stone as executive producer. Strong and powerful stuff about life in the L.A. gangs. I'm a bit surprised the film wasn't a bigger hit. Maybe something to do with the fact that it didn't really have any stars in it.

I vaguely remember there being a one-season TV show of South Central a few years after the film's release.

Wow, I had no idea. Scored by a certain Kurt Farquhar, a black composer.

I remember this but it is not the show you're thinking about based on this movie. It was a comedy/drama on Fox starring Larenz Tate of Menace II Society and Jennifer Lopez in her post In Living Color fly girl acting debut which they cancelled after ten episodes in 1994 that sparked a boycott by the Rev. Jessie Jackson against Fox for racisim. I remember seeing it and it was a pretty good show but I'm still ticked off that they cancelled House of Buggin' which was John Leguizamo's skit comedy show which was intended to take over for In Living Color and never gave it a shot at only maybe eight episodes in the Winter of 1995 and both these shows were ahead of their time. Ah well.

Warner Bros. has all the rights to the film as of now so the problem again would most likely be licensing fees more so than anything else and who's willing to shell them out to release the score. The best bet would be like the old days and release a promo of some sort to get it out there, but even that might not be possible unless it's through Tim Truman's agency and now everything's practically digital for the most part so that might be out of the question. Then again...anything is possible!

Your mentioning of this in the Truman interview certainly whet my appetite for a score release, FB.

I watched this movie today. Pleasantly surprised that I liked it. But most of all I liked Tim Truman's score. Wow! The final cue is especially pleasant and touching!

Tim is a really talented man and knows how to touch the heart with his music. Don't miss this work by Truman. It's cool and beautiful in its own way. Just listen to the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P7--qInGo8

If I understood correctly the rights to this film and the original score belong to Warner Bros.? We need an official release of this score! big grin. La-La Land perhaps, or Intrada?

Ray, did you save that suite? It's taken down from youtube and I was too slow with saving it.
