One of Ortolani's best. We also need the LPs (or the original tracks) for:
The Bliss of Mrs. Blossom (RCA) Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell (United Artists) Ecco (Warner Bros.) Madron (Quad) Maya (MGM) Mediterranean Holiday (London) The Spy With a Cold Nose (Columbia) The Valachi Papers (Project 3)
A re-issue of "Sahara Cross" would be most appreciated, by me and probably me alone. "I Ho Paura" has a totally mesmerizing theme, but not enough score for a whole Cd.
My favorite Fin de Siecle releases were those Franco Micalizzi soundtracks they did. Regarding Riz Ortolani, I like some of his music but he is rather hit-or-miss for me. One his score that I hope will get released one day is THE HUNTING PARTY (movie spoilers in the video):
The arrangement is similar to his classics Una Ragione per Vivere or Confessione di un Commissario di Polizia.
I just did an aural double-take - this theme bears a striking resemblance to the Russian revolutionary song "You fell a victim" - judge for yourselves...
Also used by Shostakovich in the "In memoriam" movement of his 11th symphony.
I haven't updated this thread in over one year, but apparently the latest Ortolani offering via Quartet Records The 5th Musketeer is already sold out (!)
Since March of 2015, Quartet also released 2-CD sets on both Horror Castle and Fantasma D'Amore, as well as single discs for Valentina & 1919 and Contratto Carnale

With this and the STAVISKY sell-out, it looks like if you snooze you lose on the 500 copy runs from Quartet. Like STAVISKY though, it is still available at SAE:
"Those papers" are in the hands of the Laurentiis company (Radiofilmusica) and as long as they are not really cooperative, you won´t see any CD or LP reissue of that title.
is paired with Un caso di coscienza (1970) on Beat Records' CFSoundtracks. Apparently, "CFS" designates a co-production with Claudio Fuiano.
and/or
Both are comedies and in stereo, but, whilst Non commettere atti impuri came from Beat Records' own archives, the session tapes on Un caso di coscienza are from Ortolani's private archives.
Also, the descriptions on both scores indicate aural admixtures of the sacred with the profane. Ecclesiastical organ or Gregorian chants co-exist with dance shakes, parties, dining room lounge music, the psychedelic, rock guitar & sensual romance.

Yes. I got my CD of Andrea Doria _ 74 recently during Quartet's sale. The old C.A.M. 'MAG' LP of 10 tracks gets significantly expanded...
... to 24 tracks, 21 of which are in stereo.
While 2 of the LP's mono cues do not receive any coverage within the bonus tracks, "Nel profondo degli abissi" has - not one but five - alternate takes in stereo!
Even if one does not care much for Italian soundtracks or the compositions of Riz Ortolani, this Quartet album should nonetheless get recognition as a worthy restoration & expansion upon a vinyl record from yesteryear.
