I've been waiting for many, many, many years for an expanded/remastered "Big Top Pee-Wee" without the dialogue (when I was in high school I went as far as editing out the dialogue in a program I had - I actually like this movie but I didn't want to hear it while listening to the music on its own). And I'm absolutely delighted to see so much music on this new release that wasn't used in the film. This is one of my favorite Elfman scores - in addition to the wonderfully quirky (and Nino Rota-like) circus material that is still one of Elfman's specialties, there is a wonderful brand new theme for Pee-Wee (also very Rota-like), and of course the wonderful "The Big Kiss" which is a big Old Hollywood love theme with in a suitably big, gorgeous arrangement. Then we have another love theme (!), the "flying music" that is very similar to Simone's Theme from the first film, the original Sinatra-esque jazz long, the eccentric greenhouse music. And, and... One of the best releases of the year.

It crashed because they were hitting all the great drivers of Western Civilization: Christ, Star Trek, Batman, and Shaft. Your could say it Shaft and burned. You damn right...

Ordered PEE-WEE! Thrilled about that one. I would have quintuple-dipped on BATMAN but just couldn't justify fifty clams for what *might* be better sound on half of the discs, the other half being identical. Hopefully, LLL will offer the first film soundtrack as a standalone one of these days. Otherwise, I'm super stoked about getting PEE-WEE, such a marvelous score.

I was too late to snag autographed copies (at work), but I ended up ordering Enterprise, Passion, and Batman. Haven't heard the other two before nor seen the films, so I can't justify spending money on them for now.
