It's a fine score, well composed, period yet dramatic.

The film's currently on Netflix. A bit routine if you've done the rounds of Tudor flicks, but the score is another thing entirely.

I'm not familiar with the film, but the score sounds wonderful based on the examples I've heard.

Thank you for seeing this one through, James F!

This is new to me. The samples sound absolutely lovely. Nice to discover an unknown gem.

LADY JANE has now been shipped from Quartet and Tadlow. Initial sales very encouraging for a relatively unknown film score. But I have lived with this music for over 30 years and been a passionate advocate, and am so glad that finally it got the CD release it deserves...so at this rate the Limited Edition of 1000 might soon disappear. Nice to know so many people willing to try something new !

This was sold to me by the merit of the samples only, never heard of the film or score. I got so hooked on listening to these samples that I am eagerly waiting for the CD to arrive to hear more. So, many thanks for the update on shipping! Good to hear sales are going well. Thanks for making this release possible (no doubt at personal financial risk). A grateful customer.

This is the kinda score I would've had on my grail wish list if I knew it existed.

Glad to hear this is selling well. I also bought it based on the samples but also with a general faith in James' taste in music. Quartet gets a bit too puffy about calling everything a gem so I can't go by how they describe it.

So lethal in John Wick.
So beautiful in this GI film from 2013.

Stephen Oliver was an excellent composer, most famous for his evocative and enchanting background score to BBC's dramatization of THE LORD OF THE RINGS:

https://soundcloud.com/inkmore/sets/lord-of-the-rings-radio

The music was re-released as a bonus CD a few years ago with the entire 13-hour BBC broadcast:

Oliver`s musical interpretation of LOTR is my absolut favorite and is so much more sophisticated than the scores of Shore. Simply the best!!

Listen for example to THE ROAD GOES EVER ON AND ON:

And here are two more from Oliver`s work (for television this time):

Lady Jane will be of the same quality :-)

Great music !

I ordered LADY JANE, of course, thanks to this Quartet / Tadlow association. But you made me want to know more, so...

- We have Rosenman's LOTR.

- We have Shore's LOTR.

Two great partitions is their respective style... And BBC is probably not an inviolable bunker... So I really hope someone is working on a comprehensive CD edition ! If it's not already the case, Quartet & Tadlow, it's for you (and us) !

I second the praise for this radio score. This adaptation was a must listen at the time of broadcast, and there are links between the Bakshi animated film, the radio serial, and the Jackson epic. Peter Woodthorpe voices Gollum as he did in the cartoon. Ian Holm plays Frodo, which is why Jackson cast him in his movies. I also read (don't know how true) that Sean Bean listened to the BBC version rather than read the books in preparation to play Boromir.

I was SO disappointed that Shore didn't use Tolkien's lyrics properly in his music (though I'm sure there was consultation here between him and the producers). Here we get some wonderful renditions of songs straight from the book. The actual drama features Bill Nighy's Sam Gamgee singing Gil Galad beautifully, and the album features an incredible version of the March of the Ents, including the song of the Entwives. Then there's Forth Rode Theoden. Gosh, I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it!

I HAD to have that vinyl LP back in the day, where rests (within the sleeve) all my Radio Times cast lists I used for the episodes I recorded on cassette in mostly terrible quality. When they released it officially I waited for the cd set and it is just AWESOME. Sorry, but Gandalf's audience with Saruman after the battle outside Orthanc and the Battle of the Pelennor Fields to name but two moments are VASTLY more emotional than the movies. Anyone even remotely interested in this MUST get the serial including the score. You'll be SO glad you did.

Sorry for the slightly off-topic point length here, but I couldn't resist commenting on this music by a composer who died way too young, and who had plenty more to give.

So nice to say that 60% of my allocation of Lady Jane CD from Quartet has already sold in a week...go on take a chance on one of the finest British film scores...before they all go!

Looking forward to hearing it. I'm eagerly awaiting its arrive from Quartet, but I've no idea where it is, even though it's "Registered Post" the tracking information, apart from giving the shipping number, doesn't work at all. As far as I can see there is no 'Registered Mail Tracking Number' It's a bit annoying if you are trying to plan being there when the postman arrives and asks you to sign for the package, sic.

I would also highly recommend his score to 'Blondel', the musical with Tim Rice which has recently been reissued on CD...

I received this today from Tadlow with 'Hour of the Gun' here in Holland. Playing Lady Jane now, great score, very enjoyable. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I've received mine. Very nice. Only reservation is that the instrumentation of some tracks sounds to me like they might better suit a film about the love lives of the present Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, rather than royalty from Tudor times.
