I'd buy that. I have the BTTF one and it's lovely....it does seem to have a cue not on the Intrada disc (but it's basically the same as another cue) and a few of the titles are different or combined differently, but unlike what Roy was saying with Silverado, it does work to listen and score read just fine.

I'm not sure if there has been a thread yet about this great company from Tim Rodier: Omni Music Publishing, which is printing bound books of film scores, newly entered into Sibelius for easy reading.

So far they have done six:

BACK TO THE FUTURE
SILVERADO
WILLOW
BATMAN (1989)
THE MATRIX
TOTAL RECALL
...
Lukas Kendall

and also EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, which is the one I'm missing

Hi Loren, I'm not sure if you'll see this query but am interested to find out where you got those Goldsmith scores and whether they're still available.

I know this isn't necessarily a "my wish list" thread, but this is what I hope is licensed/ eventually released for sale by Omni (in order of preference):

THE NATURAL (Would love to see what the "Prologue"/"The Old Farm" looks like in score form).
COCOON/COCOON 2 (perhaps could be combined)
THE RIVER
THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (I agree, one of the greatest film scores ever. Masterful composition).
SPACE CAMP
BIG WEDNESDAY
THE ELEPHANT MAN

From what I've seen on Omni Music Publishing's Facebook, they will be releasing the score for "The Wizard of Oz" some time this year. Although it seems like it might be slightly different from what is usually released from Omni as this score is more of a transcription or recreation instead of a direct engraving of the original manuscripts. I guess MGM destroyed all of the full scores for their films and only left the reduced conductor's scores. According to a post from Tim on the Facebook page, he used the score for the 1987 RSC stage production, as well as the reduced conductor's score and the soundtrack album from the film to recreate this score. Regardless, I am definitely looking forward to this score being released.

That is great news, now THIS would be the score I'd love to see re-recorded. Right down to the songs being released minus the vocal to make it cheaper and just give us the exact background orchestral parts. Thanks for the heads up, once this is available I hope someone posts about it to remind us all smile

A while ago, I posted an update saying that Omni Music Publishing will be releasing the score for The Wizard of Oz sometime this year. Although he hasn't released Oz yet, Tim recently announced that Elmer Bernstein's score for the 1984 sci-fi comedy "Ghostbusters" is available for purchase now. He also mentioned that Oz is very close to finished.

The prices for these books are truly ridiculous, but they are a fine product.

Keep in mind the amount of time it takes to engrave an orchestral score and the cost to license the score from the publisher. If Omni could sell the books at a lower price-point they would, but it just isn't feasible. The market for these books is far more niche than a soundtrack CD. Scores for contemporary classical works are just as expensive. Take a look at the price of a Benjamin Britten opera published by Boosey &Hawkes.

As for Edward Scissorhands, it's doubtful it will ever be repressed. Licensing issues.

Actually they are pretty cheap, considering everything.

After all for the same price you can get an arrangement of a public domain work that lasts less than 15 minutes...

I have Silverado. It's nice to have but difficult to mach the printed score with the disc.

Curious what you mean by this.

I would guess that he means:
most osts present some of the cues (and not the complete score) in non chronological order, often mixed, edited together, etc.
So when you have the complete score in printed form, it would be difficult to match with the cd.
Unless there is a release of the complete score with all cues in chronological order.

This is a late reply but you are absolutely correct. Often the cue titles are different as well.
Perhaps they can add a page that explains what matches what.

The contents list published in the Omni website doesn't indicate that the album version of the 'Love Theme' is included in the book. Am I missing something, or did they really omit this piece? (I would be shocked if they did!).

Exciting news!

Tim says that Oz is already to be printed, so I think it should be released within the next couple of weeks.

They most likely just "combined" the film and album version. In the book for Back to the Future, in some cues that both have a film and album version, he uses the same cue, but simply writes where the cut off comes in for each version.

Thanks. I do seem to recall, however, that the love theme never had a full rendition in the film, so the album version might well be entirely absent from the Omni book.

Can anyone confirm this?

Alex
