They aren't. The last I heard, the show is a LotR prequel.
Isn't that called "The Hobbit"?
The show takes place in between The Hobbit and LotR. Although it sounds like it might start overlapping with the latter as it progresses.
So it will be like Gotham, and as the seasons drag on and the show wants for ratings they'll shoe-horn in more and more popular characters regardless of how much sense their involvement makes. Can't wait!
It does seem too early for another version doesn't it? They certainly need to focus on stuff not already done well enough by Jackson's trilogy. As for the music, Murray Gold hasn't got Doctor Who anymore, and he does have the cinematic sound..
Who honestly cares a monkey's. The Lord of the rings trilogy has already been done. Has anyone at Amazon noticed ? Why not re film The Sound of Music ? with a score by any contemporary composer who will endorse a repetitive, mundane, boring and none melodic soundtrack.
Howard Shore should of course, especially if they're going to use his original material. If not, then Murray Gold would be my first choice. His handling of orchestral and choral forces lends itself particularly well to the fantasy world. It doesn't hurt that he can write memorable themes either. Same with Lee Holdridge.
Would be happy for either. Lee Holdridge has sadly been underutilized in Hollywood. Is he still composing?
Howard Shore is also 71 and already needed help with the Hobbit trilogy. Is he really going to want to commit to a series with a higher music requirement and tighter deadlines?

You’d probably love his score to Mists Of Avalon. It’s more pastoral than LOTR but still great fantasy writing.

Who helped him on The Hobbit and in what way?
Conrad Pope helped with orchestration and conducting from Desolation onward. Even more orchestrators were brought in for Five Armies. This obviously didn't affect the sound of the scores but it's worth noting from a composer who traditionally handles all of those aspects himself.

I didn't know that. I'm just relieved to hear Shore didn't have ghost writers.
Several cues in the HOBBIT trilogy sound like they were ghosted by Pope and possibly others.
Not that any of this matters: The composer who gets the gig scoring the new show will likely be some jack-off low-level Remote Control employee who happened to win the company lotto the week that the assignment was made.
