SEASON FOUR:

"Kamp Krusty"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ixf6n
FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XQcutQpyDA

Highlights:
  • 15:01 in. Lisa sending off her letter. What is this scene parodying? Is the music as well?

Marge: Looking through Bart's luggage, "Bart, where are your bathing trunks?"
    Bart: "I'm gonna swim nekkid!"
    Marge: "What?"
Bart: "Ah, sure, there'll be some uptight counselors there who won't dig the Bart Philosophy. But I believe the human body is a thing of beauty..."
Homer: Enters in only his underwear, "Marge, am I crazy, or is my back getting hairier?"

    "A Streetcar Named Marge"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ixf6p
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD0vTsDjej0

    Highlights:
  • 8:25/9:23/13:06 in. "The Great Escape" homage music as Maggie tries to escape from the day care center. The whole thing is probably over two minutes long. (see below)
  • 10:48 in. Marge attacking Ned.

The instrumental music for the "Stella" play would be nice.

The "see below" part. From the IMDb trivia page:
Alf Clausen secured the rights to the score to The Great Escape (1963), along with the original orchestra charts. It had been Jeff Martin's favorite film as a child, and he said "it was so exciting and so stirring" to hear the music being performed by the Simpsons' studio orchestra.

Bart: "Are there any jive-talkin' robots in this play?"

    "Homer the Heretic"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ixf6q
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUY26wZUHBo

    Highlights:
  • 8:00/9:16 in. Homer meeting God in a dream.
  • 11:47 in. Flanders chasing Homer down.
  • 15:53 in. Continues after the commercial break. One of my favorite cues of the series.
  • 17:00/17:20 in.
  • 17:36 in. Flanders rescuing Homer.

Homer's memory of his wedding, is yet a third contraction about their wedding day.

Remember, June 5 (tomorrow) is "The Feast of Maximum Occupancy" day.

Apu: "Please do not offer my God peanut."
Homer: "No offense, Apu, but when they were handing out religions, you must have been out taking a wiz."
Apu: In annoyed voice, "Mr. Simpson, please pay for your purchase and get out," then in a happy upbeat voice, "and come again!"

    Moe: "Um, no."

  • 15:05 in. Bart in the occult section of the library.
  • 16:08/17:10/18:19/18:45/19:40/19:54 in. Zombie music.

Homer: "The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughin' at me!"

Mr. Burns: "What do you think, Smithers?"
Smithers: "I think women and seamen don't mix."
Mr. Burns: "We know what you think."

    "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6dtr9f (minus the opening credits)

  • 0:00 in. "Star Trek" Courage homage music.
  • 5:25 in. The short cue of Bart fixing the dentures.
  • 7:12 in.
  • 14:07 in. Maggie joyriding the Simpsonmobile.

1938: the first "Itchy & Scratchy" cartoon ("That Happy Cat").

Movie Theater Patron 40 Years from Now: "One Soylent Green; hold he butter."

    "Marge Gets a Job"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6dwvc2 (minus the opening credits)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfBBi_TtP5k

    Highlights:
  • 9:50 in. The tube journey music.
  • 14:05 in. The window daydream.
  • 16:41/18:14 in. The wolf attack music.

I think the "I am the Angel of Death" guy is the same guy seen in another episode running in circles repeating "Fire!".

    "New Kid on the Block"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6dwvc3 (minus the opening credits) (
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NtAHEtWzOY

    The Simpsons street address:

    Continuing SEASON FOUR:

    "Mr. Plow"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6dwvc4
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf3ZXRtMUBU

    Highlights:
  • 9:07/9:39/19:45 in. Mr. Plow plowing music. A catchy eight-note theme.
  • 14:33 in. The brief "Batman" (1966) theme homage music.
  • 18:24/19:10 in. Rescuing Barney.

Homer give Barney a beer before the SAT's back in their youth, turning Barney into a drunk. I'm noting this for myself, 'cause I swear that's contradicted in a later episode.

Insurance Man: "Now, before I give you the check, one more question: ah, this place Moe's you left right before the accident, this is this a business of some kind?"
Homer (inner monologue): "Don't tell him you were at a bar. Huh -- but what else is open at night?"
Homer: "It's a pornography store. I was buying pornography."
Homer (inner monologue): "Heh, heh, heh. I would never have thought of that."

    "Lisa's First Word"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6dwvc7 (most of the opening credits is cut off, so times won't line up on normal copies of the episode)
FOX purchase link: Link not readily found.

    Highlights:
  • 2:50 in. The "Girls Just Want to Have fun" song instrumental homage.
  • 1329 in. Evil bed music.
  • 14:11 in.
  • 21:00 in. Maggie's first word music.

This episode contradicts an earlier episode of where they lived and when Homer got his job at the plant. Also, Mr. Hibbert has different hair than in that earlier episode flashback.

Marge says she watched the last episode of "M*A*S*H" the previous night, so we know when these flashbacks take place. They say it was eight years ago, but the date this episode aired, would make it over nine years.

Homer says in a flashback he had a cousin Frank who became a women and joined a cult.

I wonder if the Crazy Cat Lady got the cat house.

Bart asks Homer how long it was until they shipped Grandpa off to the old folks home, but in season one Lisa says to Bart doesn't he remember the fight Grandpa put up when they put him in the home, so Bart and Lisa should both know this already.

Sideshow Bob's hair is the wrong color. Maybe the colorists confused him with Sideshow Mel.

A re-used shot of Homer hammer nails into wood.

    "Homer's Triple Bypass"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6dwvc5 (opening credits not on this load; a few second missing from the beginning)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klP_P3OBEiY

    Highlights:
  • 2:31 in. Homer ramming the house-moving vehicle.
  • 13:54 in. Homer praying to God.
  • 17:40 in. Homer saying good-bye to the kids incase he doesn't pull through the heart surgery.
  • 1934/20:25 in. The operation.

Krusty is doing community service for drunk driving where he ran over something or someone.

Smithers: "Mr. Burns, I think he's dead." (after Homer's heart attacks him and he collapses to the floor)
Mr. Burns: "Oh, dear. Send a ham to his widow."
Ghost Homer: "Mmm... ham." (Homer's spirit returns to his body)
Smithers: "No, wait - he's alive!"
Mr. Burns: "Oh, good. Cancel the ham."
    Homer: "D'oh!"

    "Marge vs. the Monorail"

    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTCWSn4eV6k

    NO LOAD FOUND.

Though he only wrote four episodes (and was a contributing staff writer), people often think of Conan O'Brien when they think of Simpsons writers.

And even the people on the show know this and poked amusing fun at it back in 2014 during a big stage music event: "'The Simpsons Take The Bowl". The announcer says: "And now, ladies and gentlemen, the only Simpsons writer anyone cares about, Conan O'Brien!"

    "Selma's Choice"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6e2l0a
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csQ-1pta3qk

    Highlights:
  • 3:29 in. The "Prince of Tides" parody music.
  • About 18:35 in. The parade music.
  • 19:09 in. Bart's bad rollercoaster ride.

Marge rents "The Erotic Adventures of Hercules" -- a film Troy McClure said he starred in episodes ago.

I forgot to note which episode, but Marge says "D'oh". I think this is the first time she's ever done that.

    Continuing SEASON FOUR:

    "Brother from the Same Planet"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6e2l0b
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv3CuvQW7t4

    Highlights:
  • 0:57/1:16 in. Bart in the rain
  • 5:18 in. Tom arrives.
  • 10:35/11:05 in. Lisa busted by Skinner/hang gliding with Tom.
  • 12:30/14:20/14:47 in. Pepe and Homer music.
  • 18:23/18:38/19:15/19:35 in. Homer and Tom fighting music.

Bart has a Playdude under his bed.

    "I Love Lisa"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6e2l0d (most of the opening credits is cut off)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKo0QjJCeVE

    Highlights:
  • 4:10 in. The Valentine's Day card giving scene. It's short though.
  • 19:32 in. Ralph "dying" in a play. 18:48 might make a good opening to it.
  • 20:33 in. Lisa making up with Ralph.

Apu says in his inner monologue there is a discount super store next door. I don't think we ever see that, even when shots in episodes pull away from the mart.

A clip of Mel telling Krusty off, with curses bleeped. Yeah, so why can't he team up with Sideshow Bob? He can get away with it in the end by not getting caught.

I think this being Krusty's 29th year on the air has been contracted by prior and later episodes.

    Where's Corporal Punishment?

Miss Hoover: "The children are right to laugh at you, Ralph."

Bart: "Cool, I broke his brain."

    "Duffless"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6e2l0c (opening credits and part of the opening cut off, so the time stamps won't line up with proper loads)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_Tsu6V1zdg

    Highlights:
  • 1:51 in. Homer sneaking out of the plant.
  • 2:35 in. Tomato-ing Skinner.
  • 9:19/9:37 in. Lisa smart hamster/stupid Bart.
  • 14:14 in. The instrumental music under Homer's song.
  • 17:01/18:45 in. Homer trying to avoid beer.

This may be the first time an episode has ever nuked the fridge; that is, done something inside the regular universe (as in not a Halloween episode) that requires more than some suspension of disbelief. Sure there have been a fair share of whacky moments, but a giant spider bigger than Homer has nuked the fridge.

Hitler's head is seen in a Duff beer bottle in the Duff plant.

Hans Moleman has alcohol has destroyed his life and that his 31 years old.

Troy: "Now here's an appealing fellow. In fact, they are a peelin' him off the side walk."

    "Last Exit to Springfield"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6e2l0f (opening credits and part of the opening cut off, so the time stamps won't line up with proper loads)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfFbhlzXrk8

    Highlights:
  • 10:00 in. The Beetles parody music.
  • 17:22 in. The montage thought of Burns and Smithers running the plant themselves. Similar to Homer's Land of Chocolate daydream.
  • 18:40 in. Mr. Burns and Smithers taking the secret way into a special place.

You know what I want to see? A McBain movie. All these short clips over the years of it's endless parodies of movies and people have been entertaining and fun. Never mind another Simpsons movie, give me a McBain movie! Alf has already done a parody Bond-ish song for a prior episode and his scoring is always good for them.

    McBain: "Ice to see you!"

"So It's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6e2l0e (no opening credits on this load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4VkA8AxCjM

    Highlights:
  • 1:56/2:23/2:42/3:31 in. Finding out his prank idea, and trying to get Homer to drink the beer.
  • 10:15 in. The "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" parody music (and scene).
  • 20:06/20:33 in. Homer coming out of the coma.

Public Service Announcement: "The following is a public service announcement: excess of alcohol consumption can cause liver damage and cancer of the rectum."
    Homer: "Uuummm, beer."

  • 8:44 in. "I am evil Homer!"
  • 17:12/17:31 in. Whacking Day whacking. Could probably open it with 15:35 in.

Superintendent Chalmers: "Now, are these children as smart as they look?"
Skinner: "Well, let's, ah, pick one at random. Ah, humm, how about that one?" pointing to Lisa.
Superintendent Chalmers: "You mean this boy here?" looking at Ralph.
    Skinner: "NO! No. Lisa Simpson."
Superintendent Chalmers: "When was the battle of New Orleans?"
Lisa: "January 8, 1815, two weeks after the war ended."
    Superintendent Chalmers: "First rate."
    Ralph: "What's a battle?"
Skinner: Laugh nervously and rubs Ralph's hair, "Let's go."
Superintendent Chalmers: "Did that boy just say 'What's a battle?'?"

Abe: "I'm an old man, I hate everything but 'Matlock'."

    SEASON FIVE:

    "Homer's Barbershop Quartet"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6e6qeq
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhjHBuHVBOQ

    Highlights:
  • 18:08 in.
  • 22:10 in.

Bart doesn't recognize a "Melvin and the Squirrels" album, yet in "Whacking Day" -- mere episodes ago -- Lisa showed they had an "Alvin and the Chipmunks" album.

Abe still had a little hair back during the time this flashback is set. Frequently in these flashbacks they simply forget established things and looks. And Abe wasn't living in the old folks home yet -- not for years. Also, they didn't have a dog at that time, let alone one that looks like Santa's Little Helper.

Jasper: Singing to a re-recording of the Theme to "A Summer Place" "Theeeeeeeeeemmme, from a Suuumer Plaaace. From A Suuummmer Plaaaccce. The Theme from A Suuuuuuuuuummmmmer Place. It's the Theeemmme..."

Abe: "That's my son up there!"
Old Man: "What? The balding fatass?"
    Abe: "No, the Hindu guy..."

"Huh. Sounded like he said "battle.""
    "I've had a cold."
"Oh, so you hear R's as B's?"
    "Yes."
    "I understand."

One of my all-time favourite bits of improv.

    Continuing SEASON FIVE:

    "Cape Feare"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6e6qer
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaUjV36uXXg

    Highlights:
  • 3:05/4:28/6:30/10:14/11:26/13:02 in. The four-note sideshow Bob theme
  • 5:59 in. Bart walking around, worrying about being killed.
  • 7:46/8:26/12:26/15:12/18:37 in. Sideshow Bob in prison. And similar music.
  • About 19:50/22:21 in. Sideshow Bob going after Bart on the boat.

One of my favorite scores of the series. It's also probably the episode so far with the most score.

And it might be nice to hear Clausen's "The Thompsons" theme arrangement.

Lisa has a pen pal, Anya, that I doubt we'll ever hear about ever again!

Random Jury Member: "No one who speaks German could be an evil man."

    "Homer Goes to College"

  • 21:48 in. Homer cramming like he's never crammed before.

Mr. Burns: "I like to put my feet up." (briefly opening the door)

Homer: "Oh, I'm going to lose my job just because I'm dangerously unqualified!"

  • 11:56 in. Homer finding the bear. Is this an original piece?
  • 14:49 in.
  • 15:37/15:48/16:03 in. Burns and Smithers trying to steal the bear.
  • 21:23 in and a few second later when Burns let's Maggie keep the bear.
  • And the closing scene in the "future".

Mr. Burns has a bother named George, who looks like George Burns.

This is the third and fourth "Sheriff Lobo" mention in the series.

Abe hit three people with his car.

Bart: "Dad, I know you're discouraged, but please don't deny the world your fat can."

Bart: "Hey, Apu, this bag has a head in it!"
Apu: "Owww, a head bag; those are chocked full of head-y goodness."

  • 11:13/12:45/13:03/13:49/12:00/14:27/15:12/10:11/ in. Bus gremlin music. I decided to re-arrange the order for listening purposes. It's not perfect -- I didn't make a too much effort.
  • 19:54/20:10 in.
  • 20:53 in.

    Tombstones in the graveyard include:

    ELVIS
    ACCEPT IT

    and

    A BALANCED
    BUDGET

Devil Flanders: "Oh, you Americans with your due process and fair trials. Huh. This is always so much easier in Mexico."

Lionel Hutz: "Mr. Simpson, don't you worry. I watched Matlock in a bar last night. The sound wasn't on, but I think I got the gist of it."

Skinner: "Now, I've gotten word that a child is using his imagination, and I've come to put a stop to it."

    "Marge on the Lam"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ea54v
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3zMeS8hYRo

    Highlights:
  • 4:00 in. Homer trying to steal from the vending machine and getting caught.
  • 12:32/13:57/17:48 in. Marge and her new friend hanging out.
  • 22:21 in. And it leads into the end credits, which is doing a "Dragnet"/Elfman theme combo.

Homer's hair loss -- despite him telling Bart it's hereditary -- was apparently caused by a military experiment he volunteered for.

    Lenny's is shaving a woman's legs, presumably a wife.

Barney: "Hey, can I throw up in your bathroom? I'll buy something."

    Highlights:
  • 4:13 in. Trampoline casualties.
  • 22:06 in. The chase and getaway cue.

One of the most forgettable episodes back when the series was still good.

    "Boy Scoutz 'n the Hood"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ec3ir
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx7_zPIT33s

    Highlights:
  • 4:40 in. The "Springfield, Springfield!" song, hopefully without lyrics (only part of it has lyrics anyway).
  • 15:30/16:15 in. White water rafting music.
  • 20:32/21:02/21:36 in. Stranded at sea music.

If ever there was a time Homer deserved to die because of his sheer stupidity, this surely has to be one!

    Homer: "Ummm, floor pie..."

Apu: "If you survive, please come again."

Homer: "Shut up, brain, or I'll stab you with a Q tip!"

Bart: "I've made my bed and now I have to weasel out of it."
Marge: "I know you think the Junior Campers are square and uncool, but they also do a lot of neat things, like sing-alongs and flag ceremonies."
Homer: "Marge, don't' discourage the boy; weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals. Except the weasel."

    "The Last Temptation of Homer"

  • 12:50 in.

How can there be no way out of a room Homer and plant employees had to get into in the first place?

How can Homer run away from Lisa in the bathroom, when we know there is only one door in there and she entered from it?

Female Immigration Officer: "We found a missing Brazilian soccer team working in your reactor core."
Mr. Burns: "That plane crashed on my property!"

"$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)"

    Highlights:
  • 5:02 in.
  • 12:49 in. Maggie wandering off.
  • 18:50 in. Another cue some what similar to the Land of Chocolate day dream fro ma previous episode.
  • 19:27/20:28/20:44 in. Homer looking for and finding Marge in the casino.
  • 22:19 in. I like this short outro cue, so I'm bringing it up.

Homer was on the Gong Show with Barney in 1977.

Kent: "Scott, things aren't as happy as they used to be down here at the unemployment office. Joblessness is no longer just for Philosophy majors -- useful people are starting to feel the pinch."

    Continuing SEASON FIVE:

    "Homer the Vigilante"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jl5c8 (minus the opening credits, so the time stamps won't line up with a proper load)
FOX purchase link: link no readily found (the FOX Youtube channel has a bad and inconsistent naming scheme, as well as using titles that differ sometimes from the IMDb titles)

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in. The jazzy burglary music. Goes on for over a minute, with some brief lulls. More at 14:31 in.
  • 6:18 in. Homer promising to Lisa to get her sax' back.
  • 13:28/13:40/16:24/16:46 in. Secondary burglar music.
  • 17:19/19:44/20:18/21:10 in. Is the music parodying the "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" score? And an Elfman version at 22:24 in (for the end credits).

    Bart has a stamp collection.

Homer's voice has been off this season.

Selma own a loch of MacGyver's hair.

Apparently the town is full of Irish-hating racists. In "Whacking Day", as I recall, it was stated the day originally started as a way to get rid the Irish. And in this episode Abe says he lead the movement to rid Springfield of the Irish (the same Irish guy replies in both episodes).

    Moe: "Shut up."
    Abe: "I've had my moment."

    "Bart Gets Famous"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6egqd1 (minus the opening credits, so the time stamps won't line up with a proper load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1J3xg6n6co

    Highlights:
  • 4:48 in.

In a prior episode Krusty said he didn't know what the Spanish channel was (I forget the name of it), yet as shown here, the channel films in the same studio building.

Lisa says she has a weekend job helping poor people. Something never seen before and forgotten since.

I'm not sure why Bart's line "I didn't do it" i such a big deal this time, when he said it on Krusty's show in a prior episode; no one cared then.

Bart's dream about the future and heads being in jars, was a precursor to "Futurama", though the jar design is different.

Marge: "Bart, I've asked you not to whistle that annoying tune," Marge says as Bart whiles Elfman's theme music.

    "Homer and Apu"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jl5cb
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdUMkvFR5Ug

    Highlights:
  • 17:23/18:56 in. The brief "Lawrence of Arabia" parody.

    Kwik-K-Mart Customer #1: "I need one twenty-nine cent stamp."
    Apu: "That's a dollar eighty-five."
Kwik-K-Mart Customer #2: "I want two dollars worth of gas, please."
    Apu: "Four-twenty."
Martin: "How much is your penny candy?"
    Apu: "Surprisingly expensive."

    "Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jntkv
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBjAGczXqdc

    Highlights:
  • 12:44 in. Lisa and Abe deciding what they are going to do.
  • 14:07 in.
  • 19:30 in.
  • 22:20 in. With a brief lull when Lisa tries to get the kids to not buy the new Malibu Stacey doll.

This is the first time I recall seeing a Krusty Burger in the series.

Abe: "I can feel Death's clammy hand on my shooouuullldddeerrr ... oh, wait, that's my hand."

Smithers goes to his computer to print out Lisa something; a somewhat pixelated black and white of Mr. Burns naked from the waste up with his arms crossed over his chest activates.
Pixel Burns: "Hello, Smithers, you're quite good, at, turning me on."
Smithers: "Um, you should probably ignore that."

    "Deep Space Homer"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jntkw
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SAKpWP9Vig

    Highlights:
  • 3:48 in.
  • 8:30/10:04/13:33 in. Music for Homer at NASA.
  • 10:32 in. The "Star Trek" "Amok Time" fight music homage. Friend even get an ASCAP credits for it.
  • 14:35 in.
  • 16:04 in. Space music. Probably the nearest Clausen will ever get to scoring an outer space anything. I liked it; reminds me of Goldsmith.

Scientist: "I suggest a lengthy inefficient search, at the tax payer's expense, of course."

    Ant: "Freedom! Horrible, horrible freedom!"

    Continuing SEASON FIVE:

    "Homer Loves Flanders"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ee83r
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/embed/otkvO-W4ZhA

    Highlights:
  • 17:04 in. Ned's nightmare about killing Homer.
  • 18:41 in. Parodying the scene and score from "Terminator 2" (I didn't see a Fiedel ASCAP credit like other parodied composers).
  • 21:55/22:26 in. The breif cue for Homer's speech about Ned. And then Ned thanking Homer.

    Homer: "Uuummm ... sacrilegious..."

Mr. Burns: "Men, there is a little crippled boy sitting in the hospital who wants you to win this game. I know because I crippled him myself to inspire you."

    "Bart Gets an Elephant"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ee83t
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsAQgm1Io90

    Highlights:
  • 0:35 in. The opening cue.
  • 3:56 in.
  • 12:20/17:12/21:50 in. The just sound like they go together.

For some reason the normal KBBL radio hosts are not the same this episode; one is a completely different character, and un-named black guy who I don't recall ever seeing again. I liked this character better.

Bart: "Ah, it's hard for us to leave when you're standing there, mom."
    Homer: "Push her down, son."

    Black KBBL Co-host: "Don't ... praise ... the machine."

    Homer: "D'OH!"
    Lisa: "A deer!"
    Marge: "A female deer."

    "Burns' Heir"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jntkz
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5byBGELD3I4

    Highlights:
  • 8:24/9:02 in. Bart vandalizing Burns' property.

Mr. Burns: "Careful, Smithers, that sponge has corners, you know."

    "Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jrcie
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ljuw82yyIIc

    Highlights:
  • 4:28 in. Santa's Little Helper smelling food.
  • 6:14/6:40/7:-7 in. I don't know which Alien film this is parodying, so I can't say if the music is doing Horner or Goldsmith.
  • 16:52/17:25 in. Skinner remembering school memories. The extra bit isn't from that scene, but it sounds like they go together.
  • 23:20 in. The closing cue.

So, who is running the left-handed store if Flanders is school principal? Maude has a job, doesn't she?

    Flanders listens to classical music.

Martin: "My geode must be acknowledged."

Lunch Lady Doris: "More testicles mean more iron..." (cooking horse testicles for school lunch)

Willie: "aaaAAAGGGGGHHHhh! MAKE WAY FOR WILLIE!!!"

"The Boy Who Knew Too Much"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ejjk4
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFTWivNZ_Gs

    Highlights:
  • 6:12 in. Skinner hunting down Bart. Over a minute and-a-half long. *

Bart gets into the theater to see the film "Boobarama".

Why is Skinner having so much trouble proving Bart skipped school? Why not just ask Marge, who Bart forged the letter from? Piece of cake.

    * = From the IMDb trivia page:
David Mirkin [executive producer] said of the Westworld (1973) parody: "Again, to show you what a collaboration this is, we had the animators looking at Westworld and making sure of the animation, and then we made sure that Alf Clausen got the brilliant soundtrack from the film. He put in a lot of touches that really made the soundtracks identical."

Skinner: "Why, there are no children here at the 4-H Club either. Am I so out of touch?
    No.
It's the children who are wrong."

    Finishing SEASON FIVE:

    "Lady Bouvier's Lover"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jrcid
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxTX7llJuWE

    Highlights:
  • 6:53/7:21 in.
  • 14:38/18:12 in. Abe walking home alone after Burns steals his girlfriend.

0:46 in: There is a running joke at the board of a kazoo orchestra. Here we not only get to see one, it's done by monkeys.

We see the evil unibrow baby for the first time.

We get to see, briefly, who lives across the street from them: an unknown black character.

Abe: "You know, you remind me of a poem I can't remember, and a song that may never have existed, and a place I'm not sure I've ever been to."

    "Secrets of a Successful Marriage"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jrcig
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMujPX9bnrU

    Highlights:
  • 3:26 in. The militaristic piece.
  • 10:26 in.
  • 16:32 in. Bart and his damn wiener friend, playing.
  • 17:30 in. Marge thinking about Homer. Almost a minute in length.
  • 21:13/21:36/22:26/23:30 in. Marge and Homer making up.

Smithers admits to being married once. And it was a woman.

Homer says Marge dyes her hair, that she's been "grey as a mule since she was seventeen". That's one hair-challenged family.

Adult Education Administrator: "Okay, what is your area of expertise?"
Homer: "Well, I can tell the different between butter and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter."
Adult Education Administrator: "No you can't, Mr. Simpsons, no one can!"

    SEASON SIX:

    "Bart of Darkness"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jrcih (minis the opening credits and part of the episode opening, so time stamps won't line up to a proper load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02wKSviV33c

    Highlights:
  • 4:03 in. Assembling the pool.
  • 7:47 in. The kids doing pool swimming while Bart watches.
  • 12:18 in. Skinny dipping music.
  • 13:40/13:49/14:21/and the brief bit after the commercial break, in. Bart watching Flanders
  • 17:53/18:42/19:22/20:08 in. Flanders coming home while Lisa is snooping around. Sounds like a "Vertigo" parody.

Homer: "Marge, can you set the oven to cold?"

Wiggum: "Do not be alarmed. Continue swimming naked. Aww, come on!"

    "Lisa's Rival"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ejj89 (minis the opening credits and part of the episode opening, so time stamps won't line up to a proper load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffpyKJwiQEo

    Highlights:
  • 16:27 in.
  • 22:05 in. Lisa and Alison making up.

Alison is a smart girl, smarter than Lisa, yet her diorama switch is set to "On" for "Off" and has to be turned "Off" to be turned "On".

    Ralph: "I bent my wookie."

Ralph: "My cat's breath smells like cat food."

    "Another Simpsons Clip Show"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6el7z9 (minis the opening credits and part of the episode opening, so time stamps won't line up to a proper load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ8cZJwHfgo

    Highlights:
  • 21:50 in. The kissing montage music. I'd include the closing cue, but I think that's tracked!

It sounds like there's next to no new score in the episode, with most of it being from past episodes in clips. Though it sounds like the "Itchy & Scratchy" cartoon was possibly re-scored.

This clip show made me see and error I hadn't spotted before. The bowling ball Homer bought Marge as a birthday gift (with his name on it), was green. In later episodes it's black.

The woman Mindy from a few episodes back that Homer had a crush on, Homer says she hit the bottle pretty hard and lost her job.

    Continuing SEASON SIX:

    "Itchy & Scratchy Land"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6el7za (minis the opening credits and part of the episode opening, so time stamps won't line up to a proper load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pLRx3Zono0

    Highlights:
  • 7:11 in.
  • 16:31/17:31 in.
  • 18:08/18:32/18:49/19:22/19:35/20:01/20:28 in. Evil robot attack music.

Underground Worker: "We need more 'Bort' license plates in the gift shop."

Homer: "Nobody ruins my family vacation but ME! And maybe the boy!"

    Bart: "Smashy, smashy!"
Marge: "I don't approve of that..."

    "Sideshow Bob Roberts"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6el7zd (minus the opening credits and part of the episode opening, so time stamps won't line up to a proper load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxnA3nPPz08

    Highlights:
  • 2:53 in.
  • 5:53/7:18 in. Sideshow Bob music. Keeping that four-note motif from the prior episode. Fits like a glove.
  • 6:21 in.
  • 10:48 in.
  • 16:03/16:17 in.

Quimby is in his sixth term.

    Springfield has gallows. Not seen.

Dr. Demento is Bart's mortal enemy. No explanation is ever given. I don't recall this ever being mentioned again.

Surprising how Mr. Burns has a camera in every home (as seen in a prior episode), but not other places and so Smithers was able to get away with going behind Mr. Burns' back.

The commercial on TV says Sideshow Bob has been twice convicted of murder. Obviously that's for Krusty and Selma, but that leaves out Bart, who he tried to murder in his last episode. He got away with that one apparently!

It's a shame they wasted Sideshow Bob on the worst idiotic politically-slanted episode of the series thus far. No episode has done the sheer amount and level of stupidity this one has, previously.

Back on the original "Mythbusters" before it got cancelled, they actually tested if you could survive hugging a wrecking that is smashed into a house and it the house would sustain lighter damage. As I recall, they even went through the trouble to replicating Homer's correct proportions to real life, and making a life-sized Homer.
There's zero substitution to Adam and Jamie. Nuts to that new show.

Quimby: "Very well, if that is the way the winds are blowing, let no one say I also don't blow."

    Bart: "Hey, beard-o, vote Quimby!"

    "Treehouse of Horror V"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6el7zb
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVeLJ40QBls

    Highlights:
  • 1:05/1:50/ in. Goldsmith score parodying from "The Shining".
  • 4:40/4:55/6:24/6:47/7:04/7:33/7:53/8:25 in. Crazy Homer music.
  • 10:12 in. Vague parody of the "Jurassic Park" theme.
  • 11:17/11:48/12:42 in. Ned-topia music.
  • 20:38/20:56/21:10/21:54 in. Bart, Lisa and Millhouse trying to escape being eaten.

Tombstones in the opening cemetery credits include just one this episode:

    AMUSING
    TOMBSTONES

Ned's hounds have the same chase motif as Mr. Burns' hounds.

Damn, it's going to be hard to limit quotes; it's such a quotable episode!

Mr. Burns: "Yes, by cutting off cable TV and the beer supply, I can assure an honest Winter's work out of those low-lifes."
Smithers: "Sir, did you ever stop to think that ... maybe it was doing this that caused the previous caretakers to go insane and murder their families?"
Mr. Burns: "Hum, perhaps. Tell you what: we come back and everyone's slaughtered, I owe you a Coke."

Mr. Burns: "Hum, that's odd, usually the blood gets off at the second floor."

Homer: "No TV and no beer make Homer something something..."

    Homer: "Can't murder now, eating."

Lisa: "Are we taking the new Nexus to aunt Patty and Selma's funeral today?"
Homer: "Hum, fabulous house, well-behaved kids, sisters-in-law dead, luxury sedan, WOO HOO! I hit the jackpot!"

Lisa: "Mom! Mom! You gotta help! They're cooking kids in the school cafeteria!"
Marge: "Listen, kids - you're eight and ten years old now; I can't be fighting all your battles for you."
    Bart: "But, mom!"
Marge: "No buts! You march right back to that school, look them straight in the eye and say 'Don't eat me'."

    "Bart's Girlfriend"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6el7zc (minus the opening credits and part of the episode opening, so time stamps won't line up to a proper load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2oKX_Fjd3M

    Highlights:
  • 0:55 in. The "Planets of the Apes" homage music.
  • 1:56/2:13/2:45/6:54/22:08 in. Soft music for Jessica/Bart.
  • 9:43 in. Bart and Jessica toilet-papering.
  • 11:05 in. Bart going downhill There's a brief lull.

The sea captain hates the sea an everything in it.

I don't know why Bart would think the road is too steep and possibly dangerous; that path he used to try and jump Springfield gorge was just as steep and not even paved.

Things we know about the Springfield library from previous episodes to this one:
  • Almost no one uses it.
  • The staff know Lisa by name.
  • There's a section that old people use that smells like old people.
  • It has a bat problem.
  • And there's a young boy working there that Lisa has a crush on (no name, just had red hair).

Willie: "Save me from the wee turtles!"

Marge: "Thirty cents of Shake 'N' Bake? Homer!" (after seeing Homer has put a coupon in the church collection plate)
Homer: "We can spare it, Marge -- we've been blessed."

    "Lisa on Ice"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6el7ze
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFa2xsWdYuA

    Highlights:
  • 1:00 in. Chasing Lisa.
  • 4:10/4:18 in. Brief bits as Lisa tries to be good at sports.
  • 8:10 in. Monster Island.
  • 10:08/18:48 in. Lisa blocking hockey pucks. Is this parodying some score I don't know?
  • 11:01 in. Bart in class montage.
  • 20:05/20:20. Over a minute of material.
  • 21:54 in. Snake crying.

Skinner: "All right, first academic alert: Wiggum, Ralph."
Ralph: "I won! I won!" walks up to Skinner on the stage.
Skinner: "No, no, Ralph, this means you're failing English."
Ralph: "Me fail English? That's umpossible."

Different strokes. This is a top ten episode, in my book. Hell, I even give it the edge over what most would consider the apex of Bob episodes, "Cape Feare".

Parody TV show in the Simpson-verse: "Knight Boat".

Homer says he's ben employed at the power plant for eight years, contradicting earlier episodes. Several contradictions actually, viewing the flashbacks. Also yet another Hibbert hair contradiction.
A flash back shows Quimby at the hospital with the birth of a baby by a mistress.

This episode also contradicts an episode I covered this season where Homer lost his hair because of paid military experiments. Here he loses most of it by ripping out large portions each time he finds out Marge is pregnant.

Mr. Burns: "As punishment for your desertion, it's company policy to give you the Plague."
Smithers: "Ah, sir, that's the plaque."

Moe lives in a run-down wooden shack.

Mr. Burns bribed his way into winning a Miss Teen U.S.A. pageant.

Jay Sherman ("The Critic") turns yellow when in the Springfield.

    Another highly-quotable episode.

Homer: "But what can I do, I'm just..." counts on his fingers, "one man."

Marge: "I'm Marge Simpsons and I have an idea..."
The townhall audience groans and moans.
Random Person: "Marge is gonna say something."

Abe: "The metric system is the tool of the Devil!"

Wiggum: "At last -- an excuse to wear make-up!"

Female Film Festival Attendee: "Excuse me, did something crawl down your throat and die?"
    Barney: "It didn't die."

Smithers: "I'm afraid we have a bad image, sir; market research shows people see you as something of an ogre."
Mr. Burns: "I outta club 'em and eat their bones!"
Smithers: "Heh heh, well maybe this film festival can help us. A film biography might help them to get to know the real you: virtuous, heroic, nubile--"

Bart: "Oh, you bet mom; ask me anything!"
Marge: "Okay. Who was George Washington Carver?"
Bart: "Um ..... the guy who chopped up George Washington?"

(Fun Fact: George Washington Carver, according to his wikipedia entry: "George Washington Carver, was an American botanist and inventor. He actively promoted alternative crops to cotton and methods to prevent soil depletion.")

Krusty the Klown: "And I contend those tourists were decapitated BEFORE they entered the KrustyLand House of Knives. Next question."

    Krusty the Klown: "It's poison!"

Snake has what looks like a brother, or at least a close relative.

Marge likes reading the magazine Sponge and Vacuum.

Wiggums' hair color is back to black for some reason in this episode.

Hans Moleman is in jail. homer eats his "last meal", and Reverend Lovejoy is giving his last rites. And he's lead off to be executed. No explanation is given for what and how he got out of it.

Homer: "Laser effects, mirrored bowls, John Williams must be rolling around in his grave." (at the Springfield music bowl, while the Star Wars main theme is playing)

Snake: "Ha! I'll be back on the street in twenty-four hours."
Wiggum: "We'll try to make it twelve."

    "Lemon of Troy"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6esv8r (the opening credits and part of the episode beginning are missing, so time stamps will not match to a proper load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2J0yFItP6Y

    Highlights:
  • 2:56 in. To the lemon tree.
  • 6:47/6:58 in. There's no time to explain the scene. I stick by that.
  • 8:07 in. Millhouse imaging himself camouflaged.
  • 14:40/15:07/15:17/16:09/17:39 in. Bart escaping the Shelbyville kids.
  • 16:25 in.
  • 18:03 in. One lemon tree found

Jebediah Springfield came with his partner, Shelbyville Manhattan. I don't think Mr. Shelbyville was seen again. He certainly wasn't mentioned prior to this episode.

Millhouse's mom was born in Shelbyville.

"Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part One"
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6esv8o (the opening credits and part of the episode beginning are missing, so time stamps will not match to a proper load)
    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qujn_s0hZwQ

    Highlights:
  • 1:28 in. Priority package for Pete Porter.
  • 9:50 in.
  • 13:18/13:41/14:25 in. The plan to block out the sun.
  • 15:16/15:28 in.
  • 18:18/19:24 in.
  • 21:22/22:00 in.
  • 22:20 in. The outro and end credits. I believe the end credits piece is one of the song albums.

One of my absolute favorite episode scores.

This episode was a big-honkin' deal at the time. I even got this big poster of all the potential suspects that was sold at the time (actually, it may have come in a cereal box). I think there was even a 1800 number to guess or some such thing.

Supernintendo Chalmers: "Why is it when I heard the word 'school' and 'exploded', I immediately thought of the word SKINNER!."

Skinner: "Superintendent, we made the front page today," holding up the local news paper with the head line AWFUL SCHOOL IS AWFUL RICH, but covering the first AWFUL.
Superintendent Chalmers: "Huh. Well, what's that say under your hand there?"
Skinner: "Hum? Oh, it's an unrelated article."
Superintendent Chalmers: "It's an unrelated article?"
    Skinner: "Um hum."
Superintendent Chalmers: "Within the banner headline?"
    Skinner: "Yes."

    Skinner: "More rubber stamps."

Smithers: "Principal Skinner, this is your secretary. There is one last student here to see you."
Skinner: "That's odd. I don't have a secretary. Or an intercom. But send him in."
Mr. Burns: "Ahoy there, dean," Mr. Burns comes in dressed in a black T-shirt with a skull on it, a purple cap, and blue jeans, "I understand you're taking suggestions from students, ay? Well, me and my forth-form chums think it would be quite corking if you'd sign off your oil well to the local energy concern."
Skinner: clears his throat, "Mr. Burns..."
    Mr. Burns: "BAH!"
Skinner: "It was naïve of you to think I would mistake this town's most prominent one hundred-and-four year-old man for one of my elementary school students."
Mr. Burns: "I want that oil well, I've got a monopoly to maintain; I own the electric company and the water works. Plus the hotel on Baltic Avenue."
Skinner: "That hotel's a dump and your monopoly is pathetic. The school's oil well is not for sale, particularly to a black-hearted scoundrel like yourself!"
Mr. Burns: "I see, then I'll just have to ... attack you!" flails his arms at Skinner like a little school girl, "I must have that oil. Smithers ... Smithers, help me subdue this ... beast..."
Smithers: "Sorry, sir, this is all I could find..." walks in with a stapler opened up, "Take that! And that!" clicking in; staples land harmlessly on Skinner's desk.
    Skinner: "Please don't waste those."

Ned: "Dear Lord, that's the loudest profanity I've ever heard."

    FOX purchase link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwqWfRss33E

    Highlights:
  • 2:35 in. Smithers remembering the previous night.
  • 9:00/10:13/22:26 in.
  • 9:29 in. Lisa detailing suspects to the police.
  • 14:12 in. Wiggum's backwards talking dream with the flaming cards.
  • 15:08/15:48/16:17/16:48 in. Identifying the family name and arresting Homer.
  • 17:11 in. The drive-through scene.
  • 1936 in.
  • 20:30/21:10 in. Town's people racing to the hospital. I added on an end tag for it.
  • 20:06/21:30/21:41/22:20 in.

Also one of my absolute favorite episode scores.

Why is the news station's file photo of Mr. Burns not the same one as in "Homer Defined"?

Willie calls his tractor by the name "Duchess", but it's already been establishes in a prior episode and I believe future episodes, the tractor's name is "Willy".

Kent: "Dozens of people are gunned down each day in Springfield each day but until now none of them was important."

Abe: "I'm going to the out-house." (goes outside)
Lisa: "We don't have an out-house."
Homer: "Huh! My tool shed!" (runs after dad)

Smithers: "And when he tried to steal our sunlight, he crossed that line between everyday villainy and cartoonish super villainy."

Wiggum: "Did you have the same backwards-talking dream with the flaming cards?"
    Eddie: "I'll drive."

Dr. Nick: "When you were in that coma, did you feel your brain getting damaged?"

Lisa: "Oh, mister pigeon, I'd kiss you if you weren't swimming with disease!"

    "Radioactive Man"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ev4t7 (minus the opening credits)
FOX purchase link: Link not readily found.

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:21 in. The obsessive nerds alt internet page nerds at work.
  • 1:58 in. One long "Batman" (1996) theme parody. One of the "KA-POW" punch cards says "BORT!".
  • 4:35/6:0715:40 in. Big band music for Springfield preparing for the Radioactive Man film crew to arrive.
  • 9:23/17:08 in. Millhouse running away.
  • 11:23 in. Which sounds very similar to that "Riding on the bus, riding on the bus, riding on the bus" cue from an episode of "Family Guy".
  • 17:20 in.
  • 21:35 in.

What's up with that little Chihuahua? This is the second time he's come out of nowhere and to disappear just as quickly. He was there at the end of the comet episode, for his first appearance.

Radioactive Man: "My eyes -- the goggles do nothing!"

    "Home Sweet Home-Dum-Diddly Doodily"
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ev4t8 (minus the opening credits)
FOX purchase link: Link not readily found.

    Highlights:
  • 4:15 in. Another "Batman" (1996) theme parody (though brief).
  • 6:45 in. Bart and Lisa being taken away to a foster home.
  • 14:38/15:42 in. Lisa missing being home.
  • 15:22 in.
  • 16:56 in.
  • 22:01 in. Maggie going to Marge. *

    Lisa wears prescription shoes.

Ned has all the channels blocked out except for a religious one, in a previous episode, so he shouldn't be able to switch to "Itchy & Scratchy".

Skinner's mom says they're still arguing over the inflatable bath pillow mentioned a few episodes ago when Marge became a cop, but as Skinner said in that episode, his mother slashed it several times, so it's useless now.

Reverend Lovejoy plays with toy trains.

    * = There have been about three scenes from episodes where Maggie goes to Marge, and for some reason I just find them touching; this one is the best (so far), in my opinion.

Bart: "Ahhh, please don't hug me. It sickens me." (after one of the Flanders' kids hugs him)

Homer: "'Todd smells'. Aw, I already knew that."

Reverend Lovejoy: "Ned, have you thought about one of the other major religions? They're all pretty much the same," after Flanders calls him about something.

Homer: "Kids! We're good parents now! Now get your asses out here!"
