People bitching about "it should be a female composer" are again people not knowing much. Especially regarding Wonder Woman.

Because if ONE man tried to push this idea VERY hard on the first film, it was HZ. He really tried to get them hire a female composer.

See the result ? RGW ended up with it ! In other words, it failed.

Can't wait to read the 50-page thread consisting of posts ranting about how terrible this score is...

And all before a single note is dreamt up in Hans's head.

Damn. I love Zimmer, but RGW really delivered a fine score for the first film. Was really looking forward to his return on the sequel.

Same.

Still, Zimmer usually delivers.

I agree. But there are a lot of female composers out there that are talented and could use a breakthrough. I am not saying they should have picked a female composer for this film, but I hope someone will take a risk at one of them eventually.

Oh, I agree. But for every talented female composer out there trying to get work, there's fifty or more talented male composers who struggle to get even crap. It's the way of Hollywood.

While I don't care for the score to the first WW film, they should have stuck with composer continuity, considering fans of the film liked the score.

I agree with this. Blaming Zimmer for the failure to hire a female composer, or retain a female composer for the first one, seems to be a default position. If Jenkins really wants more women in key production roles in films, she'd have hired a female composer for Wonder Woman 1984, and yet she chose not too. Talk, or should I say virtue signalling, is cheap in Hollywood. I was hoping that Elfman would get another shot at the DCU film series, however I'm happy out that it's Zimmer.

No female composer working right now, even with any sort of name has the brand and star power that Hans has. Say what you will about that, but I'm simply stating the truth, for better or worse.

But Rupert Gregson-Williams did? Do you see the issue I have with your statement?

What is that supposed to mean?

Right... and this time around would have recommended a female composer for this film and would have made that happen. If any composer has any sort of power, it's Hans Zimmer.

No he didn't either, and that's again my point. Rupert Gregson-Williams isn't known to the mainstream, nor is he anywhere near as good as Hans, that's why they chose to use Zimmer's WW theme from BvS and have RGW emulate his style. It's clear as day, the studio would have gone with Hans from the start if they could have, and this news further proves this.

Zimmer was and is the absolute right choice to score this IMHO. I'm not interested at all in a composers gender. I'm interested in who I personally wanted on this project from the start (Zimmer) and who I feel would be the best choice on this film (again Zimmer).

Zimmer is the cuckoo bird of composers. He pushes out composers on sequels to successful films - essentially moving into their nests and laying his eggs next to theirs.

That's a documentary in the making!

Known Actor voiceover: "Work in the wild industry is hard. The struggling composer will often attempt to find work to no avail, going another month with little food. The barren employment land offers little; composers will try to edge each other out.

The the composer realizes he has to set himself up above others in some way, evolving into a better composer and hire. So he sets his nest higher. However, while out pounding the pavement, that sneaking and wiley Hansicus Zimmerus, or Hans Zimmer, sneaks in and quickly takes the nest, devouring any work eggs in the process.

The brutal reality of life strikes again."

So... all the female composers who could use a big break were busy, huh?

-Erik-

Anne freaking Dudley!!! That’s all I can say. She’d be brilliant!!!

But to be quite honest I’m ok with this news. I’d rather Hans do it and continue to pursue the direction he began with WW’s musical voice in BvS. Rupert Gregson Williams score was serviceable but really nothing more to my ears.

But how much of this is going to be Zimmer anyway? Will he be doing this on his own, partner with Junkie XL or some such, or just do a theme or two and let someone newer do the bulk of it? How many names under the "Additional music by" credit will there be?

I like his work a lot: when it's him.

Seeing that Wonder Woman is pretty much DC’s only critic darling I’d assume this is not a project that HZ will hand off to other composers in RCP.

Zimmers WW theme is the worst thing in the score. One of the worst "themes" ever. Unless Zimmer ghost wrote most of WW this is depressing news for me. Haven't liked anything hes done in a decade.

Different strokes for different folks.

I love it, cannot get enough of his WW theme. I even thought Dunkirk was near perfect, another score many here had a problem with. Every single reason that was brought up as to why it didn't work for them was the exact reason it totally worked for me.

I honestly feel there's a generational gap that comes into play when it comes to discussions like Zimmer as well. I'm quite young, but even though the man himself is now in his 60s, he certainly has stayed relevant and changed his sound successfully to match the times of the younger generations.

The only thing that is old about Zimmer is his body. His mind is still young and looking to the future (not the past) and I personally applaud him for that. I always look forward to new music from him as each year passes.

When I first heard it, I thought it was a pretty bad theme. But after listening to it over the years, I think it is the most interesting and iconic superhero theme in recent times.

Definitely took a while to grow on me.

It's instantly recognizable and unlike any other superhero theme out there. I won't claim to have fallen in love with it instantly upon hearing it in BvS, but I like it a lot now as well.

I suppose throwing just about anything up-tempo in this era of gloom and doom in movies would make that tune "iconic". I am not saying this out of disrespect for Hans Zimmer and his team, but rather my distaste of Hollywood's obsession with "end of times" these days.
