BUT.... in all seriousness... I bought the original CD as a cut out, and NEVER opened it! In fact, I'm not sure, but I think I sold it to Peter for some credit. In other words.... I've never heard a note of this score... until this very moment; I'm listening to the sound clips..... WOW! Horner took this movie very seriously! GREAT MUSIC!
EDIT.... that last track "Balto Returns"... got a HUGE lump in my throat and tears started welling up... Damn you, Horner... why did you have to be flying that plane that fateful day?

That's how I felt when I saw the film and "Heritage of the Wolf" played out. It brings me to tears.
I saw this post and I'm happy see it re issued. I haven't listened to the score in about 15 years. I decided to pull out my copy, and give it another listen. I turned it over and saw a little bit of dust and I began wiping it off with my shirt. But with hardly any pressure the disc just cracked with ease!

Balto was one of my daughter's favorite dvds when she was little. I was always struck by the seriousness of the story, and actually grateful for the comic relief characters to provide some happier contrast for her.
I was quite taken with the score in the film, and always a little surprised that the used album I picked up didn't do all that much for me. So happy to give this a fresh listen with the additional music - and, as others note, the poignant memory of what Horner brought to films.
I said this in the Delerue thread, but somehow I'm almost looking forward to these more than the Williams' Dracula expansion, much as I know I will love that as well. I guess I need some pretty and heart-tugging music right now.
