Synth pads, generic Newman piano tinklings ... yawn.

The "Fellowship" music clip was quite good. I found myself listening attentively the entire time. Still, it very much has Newman's signature sounds, and I can't help but wonder what Shore or another composer could have brought to the table.

quite nice but why do you miss Shore? Cause he did the RINGS music and you expected some themes to appear here? Not necessarily because he did the Rings music. Mostly because he is one of my very favorite composers. And I think that I would enjoy what he would've done much more than Newman. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy Thomas Newman's work, but it always has a sameness to it. His music feels so interchangeable to me.

that was BORING. Did you ever consider that the MOVIE is boring?

That's really nice. I agree that much of Newman's airy, new-agey scores have a sameness to them, but sometimes he hits on a melody or motif that really gels with the ethereal, tinkly background sounds. "Saving Mr. Banks" and "Marigold Hotel" come to mind. I'm looking forward to this score. I hope it's good, because so far 2019 has been a snoozer of a year for filmusic (and that includes Newman's "Highwaymen"). Disappointing, coming off of stellar 2017 and 2018. -

From the looks of the publicity material I’ve seen in HBO, it appears that TOLKIEN concerns his youth, college, and later shock in the slaughterhouse of WWI, with meeting the woman whom he later married along the way. I don’t think he met Lewis until he was older.
