  • This is the first of a number of cues Williams is writing for the new attraction. The inevitable question is will there be a release?

And will it include the teaser music from The Force Awakens?

It went in one ear and out the other for me. Can't recall the theme. Sounds like auto pilot Williams.

Doesn't have the energy, drive or spark of the original three scores, despite the professional writing.

Since This is what Disney and Williams discusses...you

    Fail.

You can't fail at a subjective opinion.

I got that. But op is all upset that Disney And Williams ..didn’t consult him. Lol

The FAIL is on your part. I didn't say that, I didn't imply that, that's not even what I wrote.

As much as I came to love the Solo theme (more so in Powell's score than Williams's concert piece) there is a little bit more of a Han Solo swashbuckling flair to this than that.

Solo sounded a smidge too Potter for me.

I wouldn't say that this quite gets back to Old School Star Wars, but it definitely has a Star Wars sound to it.

    Spared no expense.

The orchestration and general craftsmanship as always was great..... however outside of that that, this left me incredibly cold which really isn't very surprising to me.

Outside of Rey's theme in Force Awakens, Williams hasn't done anything all that musically interesting nor memorable to me since 2005.

I wasn't even born in the 70s nor 80s, and 9 times out of 10 this is where I will go to when choosing to listen to Williams. The man REALLY was on fire then.

This piece reminds me of the festival fanfares and marches that he's written many times for concert performance. Stunning horn writing as usual. I'm glad it's new material; I don't think we need to lean on the old themes especially as the story behind this attraction involves a previously unseen planet. THE LAST JEDI score got some complaints for incorporating too much of the old scores and now the complaints are it doesn't incorporate the old scores enough. Ah, well.

I bet there will be an album: they're going to market the hell out of that new attraction.

No love for MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA? I don't mean to criticize but that was one hell of a score.

I completely agree. You will find that was 2005. wink

A release could include Williams' two new Star Wars concert arrangements "Adagio" from The Force Awakens and "Han Solo and the Princess".

Keep in mind that this is likely intended to play in the background throughout the land and, thus, it would intentionally be designed to be unobtrusive. If he is also writing new music for the attractions, we might hear some more distinctive thematic material, but this is likely intended to sound like Star Wars music, but not call attention to itself.

I agree. I think it was intended not to stick out, but enhance the experience. Williams can still write a theme when he wants to. I'll be interested to see what he comes up with for the rides. And the park looks amazing. I went to Disney a few months ago and when you ride the new Toy Story roller coaster, you can get a really good view of the Star Wars section under construction and it does look really cool.

Even John Williams can't escape the jaded snark of this board.

Does anybody know the exact date when the new themes have been recorded in London?

The piece was recorded at Abbey Road in October just prior to rehearsals for the LSO concert.

I wonder when the supposed rest of the themes will be released, if at all.

I’m assuming not until the new land opens at Disneyland sometime this summer.

Thanks indeed. Several additional questions: It the 2 minutes YouTube clip the complete piece or an edited/shorter version? Is this the only new theme that was recorded? Just in case ;-)
