Well, I don't know about you, but I can't wait to hear the Men In Black theme awkwardly transition into "Rule, Britannia" and then back again.

I don’t hold out much for Elfman doing much of anything on this, a movie that looks like shit.

Even if the movie sucks, that would have no bearing on the score., Otherwise, Jerry Goldsmith wouldn't have had a career, eh?

Even if the movie sucks, that would have no bearing on the score., Otherwise, Jerry Goldsmith wouldn't have had a career, eh? That Sony is completely tone deaf to what audiences are asking for and made a film absolutely no one wanted was a secondary thought to the main point of the sentence - Elfman is probably not doing that much work on it.

Elfman was writing music right up until the recording sessions. That in itself doesn't tell us much, but it doesn't seem like a 'Elfman writes a few cues and hands it over to Bacon' situation. We'll see. These kind of scores can be really thankless anywho - lots of playing around gags and little opportunity to really develop ideas. I actually think MIB3 works best as a listening experience, even if the first obviously has greater highlights. Interesting!

My favourite film and score of the series is MIB3. By far. This one looks awful, from all the clips and trailers I've seen so far, so I'm not sure if I wanna see it at the flicks. I am curious about the score though, as a Elfman and crispy Bacon fan.

I saw MEN IN BLACK PART 1 back in 1997, when I was at freshman orientation at the University of Iowa. I loved it. Barry Sonnenfeld was a genius! (although this would be his last good movie). Watched it many times. Part 2, which filmed without a completed script in order to keep a New York state tax credit and to try to avoid a writers strike in 2001, felt like the slapped together, poorly thought-out chunk of shit that it is. MIB3, which also started production without anything close to a finished script, felt like a slight tick-up, but only just. Now there's MIB:I. I have children and a busy job. I couldn't give a rat's ass about seeing the film, to which I'm largely indifferent, but I still love Elfman, and I've liked Chris Bacon when I've heard his work as well. So, I will happily buy the score... and skip the film! I think the best score of the series is still PART 1. 2 was composed just after he finished SPIDER-MAN, and sounded like a rush job to me, albeit with some decent highlights. 3 was composed under similar circumstances. At least on this one he's brought in help and is crediting that person appropriately.
