There wasn't much to James Horner's score for "The Dresser," but I was very impressed with it. This was one of his six amazing scores from 1983, and the polar opposite in tone from his brilliant and VERY BIG score for Peter Yates' other film that year, "Krull." In fact, when that Finney movie came out (I loved every second of his scenery-chewing performance, and his chemistry with Tom Courtney) I only knew Horner from his big, brash scores for Star Trek II, 48 Hours, and Krull. But this film showed me another side of him: quiet, restrained, and delicate. There are two moments that impressed me: an early scene where he starts a cue by matching the tone of a steam locomotive's whistle as it pulls out of the station (following Finney's iconic "STOP! THAT! TRAAAAAIN!!!" moment), and his adaptation in the end credits of a ditty that Courtney sings during the movie. Like I say, it's a wisp of a score, and not my favorite for a Finney film (that would be either Miller's Crossing or Big Fish). But in its restraint it solidified for me Horner's budding greatness as a real pro at spotting films and understanding that less is often more. Gonna miss Finney, as I do Horner. A lot. - Horner also composed a replacement score to "Wolfen" also starring Finney.

I believe I only know four scores from movies starring Albert Finney. Out of those, MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS clearly stands out to me. Highly memorable and catchy theme, elegant, a classic. Being the only one to opt for this one suggests I am gradually joining the older half on the forum although I was only 1 year old when that movie came out. Didn't like and don't remember anything from Addison's Tom Jones at all and can only remember two things from Skyfall: Adele's song and "The Moors". The Bourne Ultimatum is a strong Powell work, although second to Powell's magnum opus (The Bourne Supremacy) – as well as, to return to the original question, Bennett's MURDER. Oh, now that I scrolled a bit more, I did listen to Krull, Star Trek II and The Picasso Summer, but only remember "Ride of the Firemares" from the first.

I think the films should be those that featured Finney in a lead role or a least a strong supporting role ( he was in STII?). Orient Express is quite good but it was expelled to make room for BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN!

There are many: Alan price's songs for O Lucky Man are wonderful. Orient Express is quite good but it was expelled to make room for BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN! Finney was not in either O Lucky Man or Billion Dollar Brain. I would pick most of the obvious ones - Tom Jones, Scrooge, Orient Express, Big Fish. And definitely Miller's Crossing.

Just watch your ambiguous language from now on, Marshall!! I think this is why Star Trek and Krull got mentioned on the last page. Finney > The Dresser> James Horner> other Horner scores from that period. I still don't know why O Lucky Man! got a mention.

My mistake on O Lucky Man; thought he had a cameo. Nevertheless, wonderful song score, apropos to nothing.
