No, at the time there was 1 lp with THE AVENGERS/THE NEW AVENGERS/THE PROFESSIONALS and another lp a year later with the music of FIRST MEN IN THE MOON/CAPTAIN CRONOS and others. Years later, when Varese made the cd, they put The Avengers from the 1st lp and the complete 2nd lp instead of doing 2 cds ! So, the music from The Professionals was out !

I like to know the history of releases, and that's good information, thanks!

Also for some reason they almost always put the "Tara King Version" of the Avengers Theme (which is itself a variation of a Laurie Johnson track that already existed named "The Shake") on those compilations, or the commercially released Emma Peel era Version, but never the original Diana Rigg TV Version. Anyways, here is the original TV arrangement from Emmas era in full length.

That bongo player is rocking out! Used to love to try to keep up on the couch cushions

I love how long the opening credits on this show were. It really set a nice pace/tone for the series.

Yes, even the normal length of the intro credits from the Emma Peel color episodes is about 1.25 min, including the "The Avengers In Colour" title card. Here we have intro and outro cut together so it matches the length of the complete theme smile

I don't remember where I read this before but I think Laurie Johnson himself would object against a complete release of the seasons he scored. A pity because he seems to have all the tapes at his disposal. A 5 CD box or so of the Diana Rigg and Tara King seasons so would be a holy Grail for me.

I only remember reading, he never expected that there would ever be any public demand for these scores. And that the majority of the original session tapes couldnt be found anymore and are presumed lost.. AFAIK

All this makes depressing reading! A must have for me if ever there was a decent release. Definitely a true holy grail.

Several months ago I was listening absolutelly delightful a lot of suites from Fish Man's channel on Youtube, more specifically the Diana Rigg's seasons; certainly this music falls into my holy grail category.

So here is -definitivally- an anxious buyer if a good compilation set sees the light.

I only have the Rigg Avengers compilation and the Silva Tara King one. Both disappointing. Good as Howard Blake is his stuff is no match for Johnson's melodic scoring with it's moments of friend Bernard Herrmann, and just a good dynamic feel.

The compilation was such a tease, leaving us wanting a more complete approach. If there's one series that deserves the Network/Andrew Pixley style it's The Avengers. I got the Prisoner set and it's great, but the Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) one is quite 'bitty'. Laurie Johnson's music would be much more listenable and I can't believe we haven't got something more since those above releases. I thought they may have been testing the water. It does make us think that maybe there's more archived away. The material on there was pretty good quality so it would seem the tapes might have been well looked after.

I was on an Avengers jag in the late 1990s, and I was really blown away by Laurie Johnson's scores. I remember thinking how consistent they were from episode to episode. I would buy some sort of a comprehensive Avengers box if it existed.

Love the Cybernaut episodes music. Both the Rigg ones are incredibly good with the themes that mimic the stomp of the beasties themselves. The box set compilation does of course have the amazing pre-title sequence from Return. Mind, I also like the similar stuff for Christopher Lee in Never, Never Say Die.

Hey, at the moment I'd settle for a Cybernaut collection! Not a terrible idea, hot on the heels of that Blu ray.

Doh Micki! One of those thread bumpers where we think there might be news and...... just another ordinary comment. Gets me every time. Still, a minor moment of excitement for a few seconds. Thanks for that at least!

But when I see all these nice box sets coming out from La La Land and others for stuff I have a reasonable interest, like say, Land of the Giants, but no sign of The Avengers where I would move hell and high water to get it's just a little frustrating.

All the sixties filmed seasons are crying out for the royal treatment, with what bits there are from pre-Rigg series included on the b&w set for completeness, despite my lukewarm feeling towards the Dankworth theme. And then it's Johnson all the way.

I just happened to catch a scene from The See Through Man coincidentally, immediately before coming on here mere minutes ago. And just Emma getting out of her car to interview someone was scored with a nice slow variation of Laurie's theme for the series. Inconsequential really but still enjoyably melodic just a for a tiny linking scene.

I remember I owned this before I purged my vinyl collection.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/avengers-new-professionals-LP/dp/B00C0G0OSU

It had The Avengers and The New Avengers on Side A with the first and last track being the respective title themes.

The Professionals took up ALL of Side B. That was still being shown when this album came out so made sense that it received more exposure.

The mixes aren't QUITE what you have in the TV series but close enough.

So the tracks must exist somewhere for a re-release.

This has nothing to do with The Avengers, but, if Laurie Johnson reads this (because I understand he's still with us), I want him to know how much this American film music fan loves his music for "Hot Millions," the MT being one of my favorite film themes of all time.

I have the very same LP sitting upstairs, not that I have anything to play it and the rest of the collection on. Good for recordings. I thought it was quit a big deal at the time.
