Thanks Zardoz for reminding me of Gerard Schurmann. I check his website occasionally, and I've just seen that he had a new (non film) work premiered this year, and has been working - at the age of 95 - on an upcoming release of his film scores under the baton of Rumon Gamba. That's pretty amazing.
Ah. Bjerre's record is dwindling. He's no longer the oldest film composer alive, nor the oldest ACTIVE film composer (if the Schurman thing is true). But I guess he's still the oldest film composer still doing new film scores.
Err! Johnny Pate 96 in December, but well retired since mid 80s.
Pate had great range of jazz had that fine-art with funk music too when combining them styles its very impressive, his Blaxploitation work is excellent its played-down coz guys like Brown, Johnson, Mayfield, Hayes were much more popular & established.
I keep thinking of the late Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira, who was active as a filmmaker up untill his death in 2015 -- at age friggin' 106! Hard to best that, for film composers or otherwise.
The recent bump of the TOMB OF LIGEIA thread made me check up on info on Kenneth V. Jones. He turned 95 last week, unless his passing went undocumented. Haven't found much additional info about if he's still active in music, but I haven't done a decent search yet.

He's on the list already, but I can move him from 94 to 95 now.
