Wow! Good for Göransson. I take it a schedule conflict with Zimmer scoring Villeneuve's Dune is what's preventing him from scoring Nolan's upcoming project. I haven't really been impressed by most of Zimmer and Nolan's collaborations so this news doesn't bother me much. I'll admit I was taken aback by it at first but Göransson is a very welcome change of pace. Plus (like Zimmer) he's another composer who likes to experiment. So I'm looking forward to the movie and score even more now.

Goransson will be great, but Nolan/Zimmer duo is legendary.

Sounds like you need a bite of that B.S. burner some members like to serve others; the deluxe You Haven't Even Heard It or Seen the Movie Yet! burger.

Have I expressed any evaluation of the film or score here? No, this is only about the assignment. Of course I'll reserve judgement of this particular score untill I've heard it, but I think it's fair to express frustration and disappointment when there are actually TWO blows at once -- the fact that Zimmer won't score it (given the great track record for Nolan) and that a composer I dislike/am indifferent to steps in as replacement. I found both CREED and BLACK PANTHER (which got a friggin' Oscar, for Chrissakes!) annoying scores.

Even if Göransson DOES deliver in some miraculous way, it will still be a bitter aftertaste. I will always think what Zimmer could have done. But if it means Zimmer getting Villeneuve's DUNE instead (and it is -- indeed -- just a scheduling conflict), that will ease some of the pain.

And of course, on the other side, there are those who think this is great news!!

I like what Ludwig Göransson have done, especially CREED and BLACK PANTHER, which are nothing less than awesome. I even think Göransson is the ONLY one Scandinavian composer that I actually like, so I welcome his involvement.

Yes, the Nolan/Zimmer duo is legendary, but I believe this collaboration has become annoying over the last decade, especially scores like DUNKIRK which is absolutely dreadful. If that style of scoring is changed with this assignment, then please go ahead!

However, Nolan has a strong influence on what exactly he wants from a score, so I doubt Göransson will be free to do a big traditional work. Most probably he will end mimicking something from Zimmer's oeuvre.

So, at the end the frustration and disappointment that Thor now feels will probably be transmitted to those of us who like Göransson for what Göransson is. And Thor will be happy.

How many do you know? I can think of quite a few "traditionalists" that would be up your alley. But that's for a different topic, perhaps.

I should have said: the only one Scandinavian composer currently working in Hollywood. That would be more accurate to what I was thinking of.

But yes, I absolutely love the idea to have a topic on Scandinavian film composers! Go ahead!

Goransson is a good choice.

Saw Black Panther and enjoyed the score which is not something I can say about many new films these days.

Can't think of a single aspect of ANY Zim/Nol collab that gets me excited--more like mindless droning and rehash.

I'm remaining optimistic because I don't like Zimmer's dumbing down of film music and I feel like Nolan has the ability to make a film that demands a epic orchestral score.

I agree with batman&robin. I think Gorannsson will be a refreshing change, and I hope he will be allowed to compose more actual music than soundscapes. I was really impressed with his score for CREED.

In all fairness to Zimmer, I did like The Ring and that part in Gladiator where he quotes Holst.

I honestly don't know enough about Goransson to make a fair assessment of his work beyond my initial reaction to the creativity of Black Panther...but I'm glad that Nolan is branching out. He's a strong director.

Zimmer seems to have started resting on his laurels in the last decade or two. He has skill but I haven't heard anything from him that sounded fresh and original in a long time.

I have nothing against Goransson, but his music does nothing for me.

Zimmer in the late 90's, early 2000's is very different than what we're hearing today. His scores now are more of an exercise in sound design than anything else. I love Ludwig's Creed scores and Black Panther has some killer moments too, so I think this could have great potential. But I wouldn't be holding my breath to hear a big, traditional film score from Nolan. I think it's still going to have some of that Zimmer sound, but hopefully something a bit more thematic?

YES.

Ludwig is the best possible person for this job. I'm thrilled.
