Yeah I'm sort of in this camp. Loved V for Vendetta and even good chunks of Kubo but not as excited about his other fare.

KUBO did nothing for me, although I'm well aware it's a fan favourite. IMO, his last great year was 2011, with the double whammy of JANE EYRE and SALMON FISHING IN YEMEN. It's been downhill since then, with Marianelli very often departing from his gorgeous, post-minimalist romanticism in favour of fads and trends that don't play to his strengths. PINOCCHIO might be a better canvas for him. I hope so, at least.

Soundtrack is being released digitally tomorrow in Italy, but apparently won't be available elsewhere until 2020.

Yeah... long live piracy I guess.

Sounds nice but Air-Edel Records...not a good sign for a potential CD release.

I haven't seen the film, but the score is so lovely, the Marianelli I've been expecting with a very european aproach (finally!). It has a very catchy main theme and some other beautiful central themes. In my opinion he pays tribute to Fiorenzio Carpi using classic guitar and woodwinds, and orchestration wise is a very colorful score. Harmonically it reminds me to I Capture the Castle, with some ideas from The Brothers Grimm or even Everybody's Fine. He comes back to his own voice and I really apreciate that.

What in the world does staggered distribution have to do with piracy?

Perhaps not allowing those willing to get it legally to actually get it thanks to some idiotic limitations?

Marianelli got his first nomination for a David di Donatello award (the italian oscars) for best original score (or actually "best musician" if we translate from Italian). Pinocchio is only the second Italian movie he scores.

Here are the nomenees:
The Magic Flute of Piazza Vittorio: THE ORCHESTRA OF PIAZZA VITTORIO
The first king: Andrea FARRI
The traitor: Nicola PIOVANI
Pinocchio: Dario MARIANELLI
Suspiria: Thom YORKE

A "making of" of the Pinocchio score with Marianelli explaining his work (it has the option for English subtitles):

I can only see an EP of the score on Spotify (approximately 10 minutes), apparently piano reductions by someone named Mercuzio Pianist. No proper score album. Anyone know why?

It's been released just in Italy at the moment (back in December) and it was supposed to be uploaded to Spotify in April along with the release of the film in theaters... but I don't know what will happen with the coronavirus crisis... Let's see.

From today the score is on Spotify and Youtube. Air-Edel Records is releasing digitally, so unfortunatelly no cd edition is expected...
