MV stated (no explanation given) a couple or so years ago, that the Silvestri score cannot be released. Sorry, I don't have the quote handy (I couldn't find it).

I'm not going to hold my breath because given the track record on this release i'd probably die, but YAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!

I really hope the 2nd disc is the original album presentation. I had the opportunity to hear the expanded cues, and it demonstrates how excellent Ellen Segal's music editing was. Her capacity to streamline a cue into a taught, more cohesive structure is on the level of Bob Badami.

The album is fantastic. Stunning score. My favourite Elfman. But it is made to be even more with Shawn Murphy’s best recording ever. The complete score in unedited form doesn’t to me add anything. Infact it neutralises the effectiveness of this score at times. Still might be tempted to buy it though.

..thats why I was skeptical about the need or desirability of an expansion.

The original album would have been perfect if only the opening cue was left unabridged and the film version of Mole Hunt was included.

Some of those microedits were pointless to me (especially frustrating that Zoom B was played in full on the song album), but like the Batman album before it, I got so used to those edits that it's now hard to hear the cues in full.

Anyway, one of my Top 5 Elfman scores and I love it so.

I hope Zoom A and zoom B aren't crossfaded like they kind of are on the old score CD. Zoom A is fantastic on it's own!

i remember reading this in PEOPLE magazine when the film first came out and can't believe i was able to find it online. i feel there might be some truth to it given elfman's prominent use of flute throughout the score and the fact that one of the first sounds you hear in the title sequence after the drum intro is a flutter tongued flute.

As producer and actor, Cruise can be—as one would guess from the little blue-gray lasers beaming out from under his brows—intense. “Hell, yes,” says MI screenwriter David Koepp. “He’s incredibly persistent and focused, and he’ll drive you completely insane because he keeps coming at it and at it and at it. But then you realize that because he’s gone at it, you’re going to go at it.” When Cruise heard a tape of the Mission: Impossible theme to be used for the film, he reportedly ordered it redone, even though an orchestra in L.A. had spent three hours recording the few minutes of music. HE WANTED TO HEAR MORE FLUTES.

emphasis mine.

Update today from MV when a user mentioned it and the other score on the poster art that have not been released yet:

"Not happening any time soon"

I meant adv of batman and robin

Well, you certainly confused me by quoting Yavar, who didn't name that one:

"Mission: Impossible and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina were the two other covers on the poster for things yet to be released.

Yavar"

(But obviously Yavar forgot that Batman one)

I guess WB titles already in-the-works are no longer possible/too difficult?

Good news. M:I is still on the slate. False alarm.

Shame about Adv. of Batman and Robin for those who wanted it.

OK, I have had the original CD for, what, 24 years? I don't listen to it.

This is one of Elfman's most popular scores. And I love the movie. What am I missing? Convert me.

It's awesomeness, which is hard to hear when you don't play it frequently. ;-)

(which is what I did for a while; if it had been an LP, I would have had to get a new one)

It's completely full of interesting isms, nervous little bits of instrumentation all around the main idea, stuff that Elfman NEVER does anymore. Absolutely you need to listen to the score again.

Wow. Great news!!!

Does it include Alan's rejected score?

The cover art in the main post only mentions Elfman and I can't see why Elfman would want Silvestri's material on the album, especially since both discs should be full if they are including the entire original OST album on disc 2 (which I would expect is the case, since the mix is different than the film cues).
