Weird choice for a Pixar film about jazz.

Sure. But even if you dislike their work, aren't you at least mildly curious about what they can do for such an unsual (for them) project?

Sure ! Since it seems there'll be a composer for the jazz music, it'll be interesting to see the tone of the film that could fit the Reznor/Ross style. Pixar wouldn't approve them as a choice unless the film is going to lend itself to their style - IF they're keeping their usual style.

I keep wanting to like them, but they are more sound design than anything, yet they do have an audience, and some of today's filmmakers obviously love what they bring. For me, they've yet to really enhance a film, really support a film with their music. The Social Network ( for me ) was an absolute zero of a score - annnnd it won an Oscar. So now Reznor/Ross and Eminem have as many Oscars as Goldsmith. roll eyes

Still, am keeping my mind and ears open - - big grin

Listened to the Reznor/Ross score today (have to admit I skipped the other jazz stuff on the OST as it’s really not my thing). I’ve been a fan of some of their scores but I’d have to describe this as “inoffensive but dull”. It’s perfectly pleasant but totally unmemorable Synth mood scapes. I’m sure it works well in the film, which I look forward to, but even as a semi-fan of the composers I can’t imagine listening to it on album much. Certainly not the distinctive experience I hoped for when I heard these composers were collaborating with Pixar, but I guess they were just hired to do their usual thing (as mildly as possible) and the jazz material is probably the film’s emotional heart.
