I think all cues of all film scores should be cross-faded and blended into each other and then forcibly shoved down Marcato's throat. Like religion, you know? Hail the crossface! Amen! I already said that. So it's a chorus.

I agree. I tend to listen to albums "as is", complete from start to finish, that's the experience. Of course, I recognize if the album itself is divided into several works, like one CD containing two symphonies, or a film score, an original soundtrack album, or bonus tracks, etc., but within that framework, I expect a finished score I can listen to, from start to finish, without editing anything, throwing out anything, inserting anything, whatever. Now, I'm not a purist or extremist, so if there is a cue within a finished album that I think does not belong there, I will throw it out while playing (like "That's real music" on the Prometheus BASIC INSTINCT album), and if the final album sequence is just messed up, I might re-arrange tracks and cues if I think it makes better sense that way, I don't think I should need to do these things, and I don't want to. I much prefer a finished album/score/composition I can listen to, and not a bag of cues to assemble as I see fit. It's music, not LEGO bricks we're talking about. If something is easily rectified, ok, I don't mind, but I don't want to spend half an hour or more on an album just to figure out and assemble a sequence in which it becomes listenable. PS: (I like all the McNeely Herrmann albums by the way, so I don't count them among the "problematic" albums.)

I don't know if this is the right place--was listening to "Walk in the Woods" from Twister and noticed how the beginning of the cue fades in, like there is more from the beginning. I haven't watched the movie in a long time but I do remember there is a kind of harsh transition into the VH song at the end of the cue which the soundtrack album mercifully leaves off. I can't remember if there is more music before the album start of the cue because it sure sounds like it. For the highlight of the album (honestly, the whole reason I bought the score was for that track alone) it feels like kind of a jarring start... I believe Walk in the Woods was the cue written to segue right into Van Halen's Humans Being at the end, and as for the beginning, it was sudden in the film. They'd just seen evidence of a new tornado on radar, and raced out of Aunt Meg's house to intercept it in the middle of their meal.

The ONE that really...really bugs me is JOURNEY...EARTH; the one with the Pat Boone song sandwiched between two cues. Can't be programmed out, dammitt!

Back in 1992 or so, there was a column in the FSM magazine discussing crossfades. After reading it, I still wasn't certain what a crossfade is but I thought I had a general idea. Now here in October 2019, I come across this term again in this thread and now I realize I'm not sure at all what crossfades are...
