I never extracted any music for suites. Never got around to it. If and when I fund raise again for a new flash drive (I'll have to think about things and run this by Lukas first), I'll cover some of the show with some suites.

Ok sorry I didn't understand as the links were dead, thanks for the infos anywaysmile

SEASON 2:

"The Lady in the Iron Mask"
By: Alf Clausen
Rejected score by: Richard Lewis Warren (his final effort for the series)
Replacement score: NO LOAD FOUND.
Rejected score: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A85HQkjcnNs

Highlights:

Rejected score:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 5:10 in.
  • 11:20 in.
  • 14:02 in.
  • 17:43 in.
  • 20:00 in.
  • 25:04/28:21 in.
  • 30:10 in.
  • 36:25 in. Chase music.
  • 39:30 in.

That's pretty much the entire score.

I checked load after load on Youtube and Dailymotion and just kept coming up with rips of the DVD which had Warren's score. There's probably one with Clausen's, but I'm not going to spend the time clicking on another twenty loads or more to find it.

As I found out when I did an interview with Warren a few years ago, he didn't even know his score had been replaced -- nobody told him:

I videotaped the entire run of the series when Bravo ran it about three or four times in succession in 2000. They would run it, if I remember right, at 7pm and again at 1am every night. For weeks and weeks and weeks, I made sure I was home at one of those times every weekday, to tape every episode, removing the commercials. I remember it vividly. smile

At that point, the pop songs that fill every episode rendered the show unreleasable. Despite their announced plans to release certain iconic episodes on DVD in 2000, Anchor Bay only succeeded in releasing the pilot on DVD, because it had no pop songs.

Five years later. when DVD was at its brief pinnacle, Lionsgate briefly licensed the entire show from Disney and then, miraculously, licensed EVERY SINGLE pop song for their DVDs. We're talking Sinatra, the Stones, Billy Joel, etc, etc. Massive, massive recording artists, jam packing every episode.

I have the broadcast version of this episode taped off Bravo. The replacement score is 1000x better. The original score goes beyond the line into accidental parody.

The Moonlighting scores were always HEAVILY influenced by Bernard Herrmann, especially Taxi Driver and Vertigo. This was the most Herrmann-esque score of them all.

I find the DVD version, with the rejected score, unwatchable. It changes the entire tone of the episode, and once you hear the replacement, which fulfilled Glenn Gordon Caron's wishes, it's instantly clear why the first score was dumped.

I threw out all my VHS copies when the DVDs came out. Unfortunately, I did that before learning that the DVDs dropped the bumper bits that Shepherd and Willis recorded for a few episodes that ran short, where they would just banter and chat on the set, looking into the camera, to fill out the running time. I had those on the VHS copies and lost them.

However, I knew about the audio mixup on this episode, and kept my tape of it.
