OMG! Thank God this alternate take ended up on the cutting room floor. Wow... the cheese!!!!
Cheesy, yes, but so help me God I loved it anyway. So glad I ordered this! I still have my 2007 box set and will be delighted to have this added material.
The sample of "Japanese Hand Clap" on the La-La-Land site is indeed longer, but it's missing the synths on the Varese album. I wonder if the Varese version is in the bonus section? Maybe it's the short one?
I got my copy today and the sound quality is very good. The only bummer (for me anyway) is that the overlay in "Japanese Hand Clap (Opening With Overlay)" is the small flute at the opening, not the thunderclap we hear in the film. Maybe I'll just have to rip it from the DVD.
I noticed that this new release includes the film version of the main titles which has a slightly different ending than the version used on the Varèse Sarabande boxset. The film version has a longer quote of Daniel's theme (the Moment of Truth melody).

The alternate take of the finale would've dated that moment, but still an interesting take regardless.

I can't stop listening to it.
It's the musical equivalent of watching a car crash.
