It's impossible to make a top ten without leaving great titles off the list! It's like disowning several of your children. Anyway as much as it hurts here's my list at this moment in time.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Braveheart The Rocketeer The Land Before Time An American Tail Glory Willow The Pagemaster Mighty Joe Young Troy
I'm one of the super old-school Horner fans who thinks he peaked in 1983. Braveheart and Legends of the Fall have beautiful music but they don't click with me the way his early stuff does. Glory and Aliens are favorites but objectively they get demerits for the worse-than-usual "borrowing."
No one asked, but don't mind if I do:
1. Krull 2. Brainstorm 3. The Wrath of Khan 4. Field of Dreams 5. Sneakers 6. The Mask of Zorro 7. The New World 8. Wolfen 9. The Search for Spock 10. 48 Hours
Honestly, I don't know how I left out The Search for Spock. It and Khan for me form one symphony and it's such a beautiful continuation of the concepts I was introduced to two years before. I guess I put Khan up there alone because that was my introduction to Horner and he was the first composer I followed rather than getting scores from films I liked. I mean, I didn't seek out John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith's scores based on their names, but I did with Horner. I would go to Tower Records repeatedly and look for his scores.
I have enjoyed some of Horner's work lately I will be building upon that as time goes on.. its hard too figure exactly what JH's peak-period is or his crests, maybe the top 2, I don't have many titles to know or judge, probably 20 at best ,
Braveheart Testament Wrath of Khan Cocoon Casper The Rocketeer Krull Brain Storm Legends of the Fall The Land Before Time
Peter Greenhill > 3 > Romeo & Juliet --------------- Interesting choice there Peter. Either you only have 11 Horner scores on CD and you really hate that spare one or this 'latest heard new' score has really made an impression on you in a short period of time. For the record, I have been listening to it quite a lot too these past weeks.
- Battle Beyond the Stars - Krull - Cocoon - Field of Dreams - ST II: The Wrath of Khan - The Rocketeer - Braveheart - Willow - Testament - Searching for Bobby Fischer
Older fans are always going to lean towards his earlier scores, when his later-routine motifs were still so fresh and exciting. My ten=
Brainstorm Glory Legends of the Fall Searching for Bobby Fisher Field of Dreams Braveheart Apollo 13 The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas The Journey of Natty Gann Wolf Totem
Are you being reflective or trying to start another ruckus?
I promise you, my old friend, that my interest is entirely limited to just being efficient. If one score spawned 2 or 3 others, then it frees up space for even more...
