I'm not sure it's even a thing, but what I have long wanted is a dash receiver with a large capacity hard drive. My entire music collection on my dash, no discs/USB sticks/external media players? The bee's knees.

I've tried plugging in my iPod, but it's very hard to control using the car, so I'll try using a USB stick (I've never bought one) & putting a lot of "driving" music on it. Not that I use my car more than once a month, no need to if you live in the London suburbs...& are eligible for free public transport.

... Not that I use my car more than once a month ... I hope you keep a check on its battery; such infrequent use is detrimental.

Ha, it always starts up alright. I only bought it to drive to Dorset every month to take my turn in looking after my mother, well she died this year, so I don't really need it anymore, but it does come in handy; taking stuff to the council tip, visiting some friends (when we can do that again) & I still have some family in Dorset, but day to day I never use it. There's London Underground & I use busses a lot, & best of all, walking.

Good luck, especially when winter's here and you'll be using lights, heater, etc. I'm afraid car batteries require reqular usage ... and decent, not short runs, otherwise their lives are severely curtailed. There are many YouTube videos on this subject (I can provide links if you wish) and whilst I don't want to worry you (or anyone else) it's one of those matters which can easily catch you out.

Having two cars I was able to jump start my old Volvo a couple of times this Spring (though I had to get the manual out to find out how ... it's been 30 years or more since I last did a jump start) but a new battery charger has overcome that hassle. Some months we do less than 100 miles.

And if you're thinking the battery is old (old car, etc.), no ... this one was a replacement only 18mths prior (by the Volvo garage).

But ... we're off topic smile

Years ago I culled favorite tracks on to CD-Rs. I listen to these every time I'm out in the car which is a 2014 model. I cannot be bothered to re-record all this material again. I won't purchase a vehicle without a player.

So what will you do when there are no new cars on the market anywhere that have a CD player in them? Hope you get lucky with a late model used that has a CD player? Buy nothing?

A moot point. I'm 75 and my current car will probably finsh out my driving days...

I had a Chevy Impala for a while that had a CD player in it. Pretty cool.

Then, some jagoff rear-ended it to the point that it had to be junked.

I only had enough to replace it with a Dodge Neon that's a fairly good ride. Oddly enough, a CD player didn't come standard. The punchline? The car was produced after the turn of the millennium. What kind of shit is that?

I had to get a new used car recently, it's ten years old and shockingly had a CD player in it.

My car (Mercedes E350) has an SD card reader slot next to the NAV system. A 64-MB card holds hours and hours of music.

6 or 8 years ago I had to replace a stolen car stereo. Every single model had a CD player. It was like where the CD player went to die.

I got a very good deal on a Blaupunkt with a CD player and an AUX in.

Some 4 yrs later I wanted to buy a new car stereo. Now none of them had CD players at all. Usually a USB slot and maybe an AUX in.
I bought one, but between the interface and the sound, I went back to my Blaupunkt.

I use my CD player occasionally, I'm more partial to the AUX in to connect my Fiio music player. I use the CD player on the way home from the record store to listen to stuff that I still haven't ripped into my player.

Even in 2010 when I was looking for a car they were already phasing them out of some models. So *shrug*

Most cars in the past 4 or so years have not had CD players. I always played my scores in my car. In December I bought a 2020 Subaru Ascent and was thrilled when I was told it came with a CD player. I may never sell this car.

My 2017 Traverse came with a CD player. I’d much rather have a car with one.
You can just grab a CD off the shelf and bring it with you. With a USB or iPhone, you have to plan what you want to listen to in advance and load that music ahead of time.

Yesterday, I had to run some errands. I grabbed two Bryan Adam CDs and headed out the door.

It was great.

Still play CDs in my car everyday. When I get a new car I'll have to buy another aftermarket CD player.

This is true, but as you can have hundreds of albums on a USB stick, you only have to do some very general "planning". I usually just have the USB stick in the car and once in a while add or change some of the stuff that's on there.
My car actually still does have a CD player, so I COULD just grab a CD off the shelf and take it with me... but that really has not happened. By now, even the few occasions where I have actually used the CD player (like when I just bought a new album and wanted to check it out right away), I found it less convenient to listen to a CD in the car, as the display (usually) just shows "Track 1" instead of the actual track names, artist names, cover art, etc.

I used to have a car with a CD player (but rarely used it), but last month I had to get a new car and it does not have a CD player, but has Bluetooth instead.

It's funny - I have no problem the sound quality from with ripping a CD and putting it on my stick to listen to in the car.

I do, however, seem to have a problem with listening via Bluetooth. For some reason, I think there is a difference in sound quality although I will accept that the perceived difference in quality is purely in my mind.

Ah. Another good point. I'd forgotten about those additional advantages.
