A specialist cinema in Sydney was recently dipping into the James Bond catalogue and they chose From Russia With Love and Goldfinger as a double bill about a month ago, to represent the Sean Connery years. I've seen these films many times on tv/dvd but this was the first time in a cinema. Great films, amazing acting and that charisma!!!
Favourite Connery film? - probably The Hunt for Red October.
I'll go for "You Only Live Twice" as the film of his I enjoyed the most, followed by The Untouchables. But if I was recommending just one of his films to sum up his charisma the best, I think it would be "Goldfinger".
On an eerie note, Honor Biackman (Pussy Galore in "Goldfinger") died nearly five months before Sean Connery, probably the only time that two actors in one film from the same series died the same year, and leaves Shirley Eaton the only surviving cast member of "Goldfinger", which was my introduction to Connery (Diana Rigg, Tracy in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" died a month before Connery), James Bond and the composer John Barry. It still remains my favorite score from the James Bond series, and I remember watching the feature when it premiered on "The A.B.C. Sunday Night Movie" in 9/'72.
