I have many, many Goldsmith favorites, but push comes to shove, The Blue Max is the one. I'll definitely get this release because I didn't get the previous one--I have or had all the others. I vividly recall buying a promo lp of this in the late 60s at a small shop called the Florrisant Record Center. They had a batch of promo Mainstream and Dot soundtracks there--also picked up Sebastian, The Wrong Box, Will Penny for something like a buck and a half each. Those were the days.

Nice release from LLL. I wonder will they be able to do anything new with Goldsmith's "The Chairman" Unfortunately I very much doubt it since the Twilight Time Blu-ray isolated score track last year had to resort to a music and effects (and Chinese speech) track. But miracles have happened before... Yavar

I now have the Von Ryan's Express/ The Blue Max combo, and I can confirm The Blue Max has been tweaked, if not entirely remastered. For example, the pop heard at :43 on The Attack (Alternate Edit) (disc 2, track 26 of the 2014 release) has been removed on the new version (track 29, disc 2). I've also noticed that some effort was made to lessen the effect of the left channel tape damage on The Retreat. This can be heard at 6:40 on track 27, disc 2 of the 2014 release. If compared to track 30, disc 2 on the 2020 edition, some improvement can be heard. Perhaps it was just my imagination, but in my initial listening experiences, the latest release of The Blue Max seemed to have a bit more low bass energy. This may not be good news to those who felt the 2014 version was too heavy on bass. There may be some other differences I haven't yet noticed. Unless you need the Von Ryan's Express soundtrack or are a Blue Max fanatic (like myself), you probably don't need this collection. The vast majority of the tracks on The Blue Max don't sound very different from the previous edition.

Does anyone know if there is album artwork from the back of this CD set available?

Hey does anyone else have this set can confirm the following? On The Blue Max - track 18 The Retreat Part 2 - I have a drop out in the left channel at around 3:26-3:29. Anyone else hear that? I'll look into it tomorrow and get back to you. I'll also compare with LaLa's previous The Blue Max edition.

The Mike Mattesino 2011 Sand Pebbles 2CD set is still in print from Intrada: http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.7333/.f This edition is apparently complete except for one cue (and one other included on the set has sound effects). If those two cues can be found from a good clean source, I could see a new edition coming out but it seems unlikely for this series IMO. Yavar
