Finishing SEASON 2:
"Which Way Did They Go?" By: Richard Shores https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ivayr Highlights: 0:00 in.^(parts) 20:44 in.^ 21:56 in. Another one that strikes me as being by John Parker. Here are the times of some of the episodes on DailyMotion as linked above, followed by the time on the North American DVDs. I think there is some issue comparing times for episodes between NTSC (North American video) and PAL (Europe), though. Does anyone know if this would account for a difference of over 2 minutes between these times? In part of one show I watched, James MacArthur's voice was sounding a bit like Mickey Mouse... S01E01 - Full Fathom Five - 51:09, 49:08 S01E02 - Strangers In Our Own Land - 51:11, 49:08 S01E04 - Samurai - 51:12, 47:52 S01E05 - ....And They Painted Daisies On His Coffin - 51:10, 49:07 S01E06 - Twenty-Four Karat Kill - 51:05, 49:02 My site lists all the cues for several first season shows including their location in the show and the length of the cues, based on the DVDs. There are also timings for individual acts in the shows if anyone wants to compare. Sorry, I don't ... I just finished re-viewing all 278 episodes which took me about 2½ years. For info about season one shows, for example, see http://fiveohomepage.com/5-0log1.htm PS Mr. Audio and Broughtfan, would appreciate it if you can contact me by e-mail via the link at the bottom of my WWW site (click on my name to see this)...

SEASON 3:
"And a Time to Die..." By: Richard Shores https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jg7e4 Highlights: 0:00 in. Continuing SEASON 3:
"The Reunion" By: George Romanis https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8dvf6w (NEW link as of 10-18-23) Highlights: 0:00 in.^(0:30) 2:45 in.^ 5:08 in. 24:18 in.^ 37:31 in.^ 40:56 in. "The Late John Louisiana" By: Don B. Ray https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8dwijl (NEW link as of 10-18-23) Highlights: 0:00 in. Opening bumper.^ 11:47 in. Including a water chime. Track 11 from the obscure Don B. Ray promo of cues from the show. The episode takes track 12 from the promo, edits it down and slows down the tempo a lot and lays it on top of track 11 for the closing. A suite that includes score from this episode, will not retains this butcher job. Track 12 is used almost in full at the proper speed later in the episode. 16:48 in. 32:41 in.^ 36:35 in.^ 43:43 in.^ 46:38 in. Track 13 from the promo appears to be an edit job of multiple short cues from the episode, including the closing cue of the episode. There may be more cues on the promo from this episode. I think a little of the score is tracked into the next episode -- a track-job episode -- titled "The Last Eden". Track 11 was tracked in the track-job episode "Beautiful Screamer", early on in the episode short before a man puts on light blues rubber gloves. NOTE: I'd love to know what cue opens this episode (as well as 32:52 -- an obvious Stevens cue, but what episode): https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8dxnqr "Over Fifty? Steal!" By: Morton Stevens https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6pqe8n Highlights: 0:00 in.^ 6:07 in. 12:13 in.^ 14:01 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both) 22:05 in.^ 28:24 in.^ 34:04 in.^ 36:49 in.^ 38:47 in. 41:47 in.^ 43:44 in.^(parts) There's just something about older odd-ball crooks that seems to inspire delightful whimsical scores from Stevens. Another example being his "Police Woman" episode score "Merry Christmas, Waldo". Might as well say the complete score should be released. I dare say he should have at least gotten an Emmy nomination for this. I think a little of this was tracked into a later track-job episode titled "The Double Wall". "That's quite unfair, McGarrett." "I'll apologize in court." "Paniolo" By: Don B. Ray https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8dyij1 (NEW link as of 10-19-23) Highlights: 0:00 in. 4:57 in. Track 10 from the obscure Don B. Ray score promo with cues from the show. 6:07 in. 18:11 in. Track 7 from the score promo. 22:39 in. Track 8 from the score promo. Cue after the commercial break is tracked from an unknown prior episode. 23:46 in.^ 26:53 in.^ 40:12 in. 42:09 in.^ 46:39 in. Track 6 from the score promo. "Ten Thousand Diamonds and a Heart" By: Don B. Ray https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6vbn9t Highlights: 2:44 in.^(closing) 4:36 in.^ 15:30 in. 19:01 in. Montage cue with little to no FX.^ 24:50 in. 29:26 in. 30:26 in.^ 32:40 in. About four minutes of cool robbery music.^ 36:44 in.^ 39:37 in. 40:43 in. 45:11 in. It's going to be a good day to listen to a number of these cues SFX free; Ray did a good job on this episode score. Hopefully that fucking lawsuit ends and score can proceed ahead to being released. That was delightful, being surprised by that move at the end. Track 15 on the obscure Don B. Ray promo with cues from the show, is an edit job of two different cues" the first nineteen seconds are used twice in the episode, the rest is also used twice (once partially and the other fully). The score in the episode has better sound quality than the promo though. 0:07 in: tracked from "The Late John Louisiana". "To Kill or Be Killed" By: Don B. Ray https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jo3y6 Highlights: Around 2:20 in. 25:49 in. 29:07 in. 34:10 in. On a set of season three scoring, I'm not sure how much of this I would include, if anything at all. And. quite frankly, it's dubious there is any original scoring in this episode. 0:00 in: all tracked, including that bad edit laying in part of the climax cue from "Paniolo". NOTE I probably won't be online Friday, so I am going to post twice as many reviews tomorrow to make up for it.

Finishing SEASON 3:
I promised twice as many reviews for today, so in about two hours I'll post more. "F.O.B. Honolulu: Part 1" By: Don B. Ray https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6iq0ja Highlights: 1:46 in.^ 5:33 in.^ 10:41 in.^ 12:28 in. 20:57 in.^ 25:27 in.^ 28:48 in.^(connect to above) 36:30 in.^ 42:50 in.^ 45:34 in.^ 42:26 in. I think this is tracked Stevens though.^ 3:40 in: tracked from "The Late John Louisiana". The cue after Fat smashes the golden statue, the leads to the opening theme music, is track nine from the obscure score Don B. Ray score promo, but I can't say it originated in this episode. The closing cue of the episode is tracked from "Paniolo". For the guys here: 29:07 in. You're welcome. I'd swear that grandma at the pool is checking her out and liked what she saw! "F.O.B. Honolulu: Part 2" By: Don B. Ray https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ht7v7 Highlights: 6:15 in. 10:31 in.^ 18:21 in.^ 19:39 in.^ 37:10 in.^ 40:33 in. Including a water chime.^ 43:52 in. 45:17 in. Score is tracked from "Ten Thousand Diamonds and a Heart" when the girl arrives at the hotel and changes into a disguise on the elevator. 28:21 in: tracked from "Paniolo". I think everything when the brunette in red and Fat are talking, is tracked. Everything leading up to the brunette in red getting out of the black limo, is tracked and that music for her getting out is tracked from "The Late John Louisiana" (two cues, both on the promo). In the end, I'm not sure how much original scoring -- if any -- there is in this two-parter. (NtM: 2:23, 17:50, 24:09) "Dear Enemy" By: Richard Shores https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6j9jiw Highlights: 3:56 in.^ 7:29 in.^ 16:01/17:20 in.^(both) 27:10 in.^ 29:31 in.^ 39:14 in. The source music.^ 35:38 in.^ 36:27 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both) 42:05 in.^ 43:56 in.^ There were a number of awesome cool cues in this episode score. "The Grandstand Play: Part 2" By: Richard Shores https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6jxvgk Highlights: 7:53 in.^ 11:55 in.^ 23:36 in.^ 25:26 in.^ 26:29 in.^ 27:32 in.^ About 30:35 in.^(opening/34:00/after dialogue) 37:47 in.^

SEASON 4:
There's something about the season four theme arrangement that just isn't clicking with me. Another version later in the season, but while better, it is still weak when compared to the first season arrangement. "Highest Castle, Deepest Grave" By: Morton Stevens https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6k8iny Highlights: 3:40 in.^ 12:16 in. Yet another cue that's going to be awesome to have SFX free one day; and the episode goes to commercial break before the cue ends, so we don't even get to hear the ending.^(EDIT) 15:52 in.^ 17:32 in. Pleasant and kind of lovely strings-only cue.^ 20:08 in. 24:21 in.^ 29:21 in. Strings, woodwinds and piano for a nearly FX free cue about a tragic flashback. Some brass joins in around the end.^ 32:26 in. 37:10 in.^ 42:07 in. 46:53 in.^ (NtM: 40:40) "No Bottles... No Cans... Continuing SEASON 4:
"Rest in Peace, Somebody" By: Don B. Ray https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ktxzt Highlights: 0:00 in.^ 7:05 in. 9:13 in. Ray uses the repeating staccato brass idea Stevens used in episodes of "Police Woman" (yes, it's in the one or two of the first three suites).^ 12:08 in. 21:21/22:59 in. And the cue after the commercial break after the second cue (also using that "Police Woman" idea).^(all three) 34:06 in. 37:34 in. 40:15 in. (NtM: 4:46) "A Matter of Mutual Concern" By: Richard Shores https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6k8ios Highlights: Nothing. Hands down the weakest score I've done yet and I had to double back to this one, so I finished season four before this one! "Nine, Ten, You're Dead" By: Harry Geller https://ok.ru/video/4847059601973 Highlights: 0:18 in. 2:28 in. 19:17 in.^(22:??) 24:51 in. 29:09 in. 36:05 in. 38:34 in. Opening bumper and the score cue that immediately follows it.^(both) 6:13 in. 15:25 in.^(closing) 21:23 in. 41:32 in.^ On a set of season four scoring, there's not much I'd take away from this episode score. I'd only take 0:00 and 41:32. A weak score overall. For the guys here: 33:03 in. You're welcome. Yeah, put me in the middle of that girl candy. Yeah -- "Hookman" was a real winner. :-) I'm actually dishing out the reviews in small batches as to draw the thread and interest out, but I'm actually about to finish up season seven tomorrow.

Thanks, as always, for posting Justin. I don't think many people realize that Bruce Broughton's first credited work was for an early 1973 episode of "Gunsmoke" ("Finishing Touch," scored later that year, was only his second credited score*) one in which he appears as the saloon pianist (he was 26 at the time). * - Based on my research, Bruce did some uncredited "5-O" cues the previous season for the episodes "The Child Stealers" (14) and "The Diamond Nobody Stole" (23). Not sure if you were able to view these as I see neither listed. Has really been nice revisiting these episodes. I think it's a travesty that Richard Shores, in his entire career, never received even a single Emmy nomination (not even for those very hip, distinctive S4 "Man from U.N.C.L.E" and S3/4 "Wild Wild West" shows he did). IMO, he should have been included with Mort, Bruce and Don in the 1974 nominations (No question, Mort, with that inimitable "Hookman" score, had the win "in the bag") as "Draw Me a Killer," is a damned good (and very effective) score (as are "Anybody Can Build a Bomb" and Shores' two S7, and last, "5-O" scores).

They're up, it's just that I skipped episodes with no credited composer. If you have and info' that can pin-point the precise cues, I'll double back later and cover the episodes and note them.

"Quincy, M.E." is absolutely a serious consideration, but if I were to do it, I got to say it's very unlikely to do be this year. It's looking like I've almost booked up the year with shows I want to do. Broughton could have written the cues to blend into the rest of the score and not stand out. Just speculation.
