Generally speaking, there is a wide range of quality when it comes to artwork for soundtrack CDs (IMO). Ranging from excellent designed covers, booklets, and CDs by the likes of Caldera, Chris Soundtrack Corner, La-La Land, Intrada, Quartet, Music Box, SAE, Waxwork to the sadly rather muddled (Digit, GDM) or even amateurish examples (buysoundtrax, Dragon's Domain, or – beyond their mostly nice cover artwork: Kritzerland). Coming from a family background of graphic designers and having designed a couple of posters, DVDs, CDs etc. myself, I highly appreciate good graphic design. It's an art form in itself. Knowing that there are a lot of gifted people out there doing a masterful job (see above) it just pains me to see missed design opportunities on otherwise great scores releases. Sometimes I even wished another Label had put out the CD just to get better artwork (i.e. Gerald Fried Collection: Caldera instead of buysoundrax)… Anyway, I would never refrain from purchasing a CD with a lesser artwork if I do like the music, though. The music is and will always be the main incentive to buy a CD.

Ha, ha. Good one!

Interesting to note how many people prefer the new artwork for HOOK. I mean, it's beautiful and everything (is it Druzan?), but I kinda like the original, sleak, elegant image of just the hook itself. More original.
