Kamen said in an interview he called up Badelt to help him after cues (or some larger chunk of score) was not accepted. In some cases Badelt just laid over stuff (as I seem to recall), but some promos have cues on them, suggesting he did entire new cues as well.
Kamen's original recordings have not really been heard.
MV actually brought up working on this titles years ago. Before the short-lived ScorePedia.org came out.
My understanding is this recording is purely Kamen. No Badelt.
I'd prefer that the film versions also be included as I want to hear the music the way it was in the film, but I'm super psyched about this regardless. A long time coming!

I could be wrong. Don't take what I said to the bank until the album is officially released.

Perhaps that's why it's a two-disc set. Disc 1 is Kamen's original score as composed with Disc 2 being either a remastered OST and/or film versions and bonus material.
This release sounds like it's going to be something very special
What's the deal with Badelt on this score? Never heard of it.
I'll third that. News to me.
The producer Lauren Shuler Donner was dissatisfied with Kamen's orchestral approach and insisted on electronic overdubs, so Klaus Badelt was brought onboard. There was even a promo with his work for X-Men

This is not true. As Neil just mentioned, Michael wrote all of the score. Klaus Badelt was brought in by Michael‘s team to simply add electronic textures and not to replace anything.

I imagine that's what the official story is supposed to be. I was told that Badelt had actually submitted some demos for consideration of the main composing gig prior to being hired by the studio to essentially spruce up Kamen's score. Even Ottman mentioned in the X2 liner notes that the final score in film was butchered from what was originally written. So while I can imagine MK getting sole credit being a legal thing, I don't know if it really indicates if KB was deliberately hired by him or not. Especially when the official credit of "additional electronic percussion" somewhat downplays his involvement.
What I do want to know if this new release actually will be the score as originally written (with the KB versions of cues as extras), or if this only has the final mix of the score and the OST to work off of.
