Mine arrived Friday from Amazon. £27.94 which I think was the price when I preordered.
Great finally having these wonderful albums - listened to 4 so far and already well, well, well worth the price.
These wonderful albums have all been available on CD for many years - you're just getting around to them now?
Yep, unfortunately I when I started getting into soundtracks all those years ago I missed out on the handbook of already available titles and just when I think I have everything I want that's already been released I just keep discovering more - or I'm foolish enough to listen to samples of titles I know nothing about and end up buying those as well.
Think I found out about these a year or so ago and by then not all, if any, of the titles were readily available as "new". I know in the months before this set got released I started looking around at digital versions but again not all the ones I was interested in were available. Then this set got announced and suddenly I'm glad I held off.
Been pretty much listening to these non-stop since getting the set. The only one I haven't ripped / listened too is Obsession. I have the Music Box release for that and although that set presented the original album as suites and this album has them broken down into separate tracks, I don't see the need to have two versions in my library. Unsure if there are any other differences between the version in this set and that of the Music Box release.
One question I do have however, are these the same tracks/recordings that appear on Varese's long OOP Concert Suites release ?

Yes the same release although the sequences were not exactly the same and only the Herrmann film scores only which were recorded under phase 4 miking. I only had tapes made of that set but then I had to look for the separate cd editions which were ok. Many years later I got the Decca Eloquence edition which were packaged differently but had the same sound quality. But I guess this time it has been remastered from the original session tapes so they should sound much better. I am definitely ordering these. Also Some of the Herrmann decca albums were also issued on the Gold Disc MFSL label. I suppose they sounded better at that time.
Thanks. I had also been looking out for a while now for that Concert Suites album. With these being the same recordings that's one thing I don't need to duplicate.
I'd forgotten this was coming out (at my age memory 'aint what it used to be) but should have it from Amazon tomorrow. It will be good to have them complete in one set with the original artwork. The set also has a booklet with new notes by Tom Schneller.
This is a very nice set and I can just about read the notes on the back cover of each CD (exactly as the original LPs) with a powerful magnifying glass

How much did you pay, John? I saw it priced at £37.99 on Amazon just before the release date, but you could get it £10 cheaper on ebay. I wanted to use up some Amazon vouchers for it, but didn't want to pay 10 quid over the odds.
Kev, AmazonUK are doing it for £30 post free. Others are doing it for as low as £26/£27 but with delivery charges to be added on, and the number of days to wait much longer.
The AmazonUK delivery is very quick, so I'd say they are the ones to go with.
Just ordered mine via Amazon UK and my bill came to £23.35 International shipping included! (they gave me £5 off)
This was in and out of my Amazon preorder several times. Finally decided to not get it as I can't really justify another set of these suites -- I have the Varese box of the suites, plus individual discs including some of the Mobile Fidelity lab gold discs. Not that anyone cares what I do! But it certainly looks like a great set for anyone who is lacking these performances -- and it is great they are using the original album cover art. These recordings have been a part of my life for so long they almost seem like siblings.

I know what you mean here. Similarly the Gerhardt albums are so essential. Have the reissues and the SACD.
I remember when my brother bought the albums "The Mysterious Film World Of Bernard Herrmann" and "The Fantasy Film World Of Bernard Herrmann" and was greatly impressed with the productions.
Thanks mgh..... I watch and listen to Dave Hurwitz's YouTube channel every day. The majority of his reviews are in the classical field, but with great variety and interesting byways that is most educational. He is very funny and has none of that “Classical music, nose up in the air” b.s. He really knows his stuff......
I love his enthusiasm, but no need to throw shade at scores for Die Hard, Star Trek or Spiderman franchises... he obviously is unaware of how incredible the music is for those movie series!
The mini-reproductions of the LP covers would make a nice Herrmann wall-display piece, mounted in a frame with a custom mat. Or even individually framed and wall-mounted in any chosen formation.
