Glad that you can make it. I'll be there for the Thursday concert, too. I'll be going home right after the event, though.

I've had a ticket for the past 2 years for the Digital Concert Hall so I'll be watching the
Saturday concert live. If anyone is interested in also watching live or later in the archive, check out the tickets for the Digital Concert Hall: https://www.digitalconcerthall.com/en/access. A 1 week pass is 9.90 euros and you can watch not only the concert, but hundreds of archived concerts going back as far as a number of Karajan ones.

I was so happy that Williams got to do the concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic since it showed that even they, the most hardcore old school of orchestras, has come to embrace film music and Williams's genius, if perhaps not totally from an artistic point of view, but possibly from a monetary and classical music recruitment one. My only disappointment was that it wasn't with the Berlin Philharmonic, arguably the greatest orchestra in the world right above Vienna, London, Concertgebouw, Chicago. etc. I was ecstatic to hear about this concert and am really looking forward to it this weekend in 4K video and high-res audio. It's times like this that I'm glad I have an 80" TV and Dolby Atmos audio setup. It's as close to being there that I can get!

About two hours to go! Maybe I'll see you in the foyer, Rokesmith. As far as I can tell, you're the only other FSMers who will attend today.

Great write up Thor - felt I was there with you. And thanks for sharing that brief clip of where you were sitting - that's a perfect spot. So happy it happened, and hopefully the experience helped remedy missing him in 2018.

So glad you were able to be there in person Thor! Not being able to do so myself, I watched the concert on the live Digital Concert Hall feed on my 80" 4K TV and surround sound system, the next best thing to being there. It was a moving experience for me as I watched Williams become emotionally involved in some of the pieces which is very rare to see from a composer conducting his own works. That may be attributed to the incredible performance of the orchestra as he and it seemed to be working on a higher plane together.

I agree with a couple of your points. Like the Vienna concert, I thought that Marion's Theme could have been dropped since it's included in the Raider's March. I personally would have rather he played Rey's Theme which would have been gorgeous with this orchestra. Also, I was thrown by the Throne Room repeat. Of course that could be just me reacting to a change in something I've heard countless times over the years.

I never ever thought it would be possible for Williams to conduct his work with the world's greatest orchestra. At least they are for me (and many the world over) as I have a couple of hundred of their recordings and am a subscriber to the Digital Concert Hall. Regardless of where we watched the performance, it was surely a special night to remember for the rest of our lives.

It's interesting to read that you and Thor were thrown off by this version of The Throne Room because has been the staple concert arrangement of the piece since... well... 1977.
