At least these two scores won't be sharing the same disc space, like I.Q and SECONDS did.

I care less about the pairing, although it does give me hope that The Omen and The Trouble With Angels will be paired on some future release, than the two scores. TTT is okay, but Ace Eli I never cared for.

Oh for the love of Pete, or for Pete's sake. roll eyes Two scores, same composer is enough to pair them on the same disc.

It's good to see Escape From L.A again, I missed it the first time. Good work, assorted LaLaLand monkeys.

I think the people that care most about the pairing are those that play the actual CDs, whereas those - like me - who import everything into their computer will separate them anyway.

And ditto for hoping The Trouble With Angels is forthcoming - I missed out on the Intrada release.

These Goldsmith Volumes still have me hoping for 'The Omen Trilogy' set for a Black Friday announcement!

That would be dope.

Word.

yes and that word is Varese - at least in case of the first one... with the others... who knows

But has LLL not recently released some titles which were with Varese!

Yavar, please can you assist?

Thanks

Yes, they have. And they’ve all been Fox titles. Omen is also Fox so I don’t see why this couldn’t happen. They did it with POTA too.

What’s this “all”? PotA is the only time LLL (or I think any other label, with the possible exception of the huge Elfman/Burton box set) has sub-licensed film music from Varese. And it seems likely that it was a one time thing (though I hope it wasn’t!)

Dead Again, Pet Sematary, Iron Will, Total Recall, Basic Instinct, and others were titles originally on Varese, but expanded on other labels because Varese didn’t have perpetuity rights.

I’m guessing that was a joke but I could be wrong.

Did I miss something or didn’t Lalaland just release four volumes of Goldsmith’s Fox work that was previously released in the varese Fox box?

I’m pretty sure Varèse didn’t have perpetuity rights to the Fox titles LLL have done so far (Planet of the Apes titles aside).

Titles released as limited Varese Club titles are rarely held by them in perpetuity (I think The Ballad of Cable Hogue might be a rare exception). Example: Varese premiered Magic on CD in their Club, but LLL was easily able to release a new edition (expanded by one short extra cue) without dealing with Varese at all, just Fox. All of the music on the Fox box which hadn’t already been given regular Varese releases (not limited run Club titles) should be fair game (and has been) for other labels. LLL recently expanded SPYS (previously only available in the Varese Fox box) for instance, and unlike with PotA you’ll see no mention of Varese on any press release or packaging. Much earlier Intrada released as stand alone (sometimes expanded) albums The Detective, Von Ryan’s Express, Fate Is the Hunter, Shock Treatment, etc. — all also titles which Varese had premiered in the set.

Right. But again, it didn’t stop them from doing Apes. So they could just do the same thing for The Omen.

So what are the chances of a future Goldsmith at Fox release for the two Flint scores? Are those Varese in perpetuity? I really hope not, because they don't seem to want to give us complete releases of these wonderfully fun scores.

Those are indeed Varese in perpetuity, not because of the Goldsmith at Fox box (which was a limited Club release) but because of the regular (available in stores) twofer release premiering the film recordings of both scores in the 90s:

Same goes for The Mephisto Waltz and The Other, also released as a Fox twofer regular Varese release in the 90s. The Deluxe Editions of the Omen scores were also not limited Club titles, but regular Varese releases, so they all probably are off limits too, aside from the album recording of II. On the other hand Poltergeist II was given a regular release Varese DE but got expanded by Kritzerland and Intrada later so…

Right, so let me ask the question otherwise...

Which other Jerry Goldsmith scores from 20th Century Fox could be released into these ongoing series ??

Briefly why does having a retail store release entitle Varese to have these scores in perpetuity? Or is that just an indicator that they have sole copyright, whereas other releases are licensed temporarily?
I'm only inquiring because I'm wondering why the last two titles haven't been expanded and re-released (I'm not counting the reissue in the Varese Horror Box).

The pairings of these scores don't bother me in the least bit. Even if I break them apart when ripping them I may still pull the physical copy from the shelf from time to time and it still won't bother me. I'm just thrilled to be adding more Goldsmith to my collection. I'm not necessarily late to the game with him but I am discovering many new scores that I've never once listened to or owned. Keep these releases coming, I say.
