Btw i must see this movie again over christmas. One of my nan's favourites" --------------------------------------
Thanks Bill. I actually bought the film on DVD a few months back for 50p in a Charity Shop, but haven't gotten around to loading it yet. I must have originally seen it years ago, but can only vaguely remember it, beyond the song sequences. I might give it a watch over the Holiday period too. Mazel Tov.
‘Music Composed and Conducted by John Williams’ Soloist, Isaac Stern’
I thought “How sad. Even when you break out on your own, you still get billed below John Williams by merely being associated with him. Getting credit must have been tough back in the day.”

I suppose the absence of Jerry Bock on the front cover is weirder.
That is somehow bizarre indeed... the composer is not mentioned on the cover, only the conductor who adapted the music? Sure, John Williams is more famous than Jerry Brock, but still.
This sounds good but I wonder if the reprises of 'Tradition' for the two eldest daughters will be included ie 'They gave each other a pledge unheard of, absurd....' 'They want my blessing, for going over my head, unheard of, absurd....' I hope so.

Try having a look at the original LP cover. Isaac Stern was actually above Williams on it and Bock/Harnick were only in the billing block on the back. These things are contractual.
Would have been a good chance to redeem Bock's honour, though. But then I don't know anything about the contractual side of things.
The rules are very specific. But I compensated by having a very big billing block on the back where their names are much more visible. As to how and why it was the way it was, you'd have to get a Ouija board and ask Michael Stewart, Marc Newman and Sol Hurok. Bock & Harnick families & representatives were involved in this and saw everything, and the royalty splits alone took me weeks to research and calculate. So it's a little insulting that you would think something like this was taken lightly. But not really surprising.

Lightly, you mean. I had no insinuation thereof whatsoever. I said I have no idea about the contractual side of things. Not everyone has inside knowledge about this. My take was more that -- in principle -- it would have been nice to have Bock credited on the cover. You have explained why that wasn't the case, and you could have forwarded that view without the over-reaction and personal insult.
The film adaptation with its scoring has always been a mixed bag for me. All you have to do is hear the Broadway cast album and you'd understand. So much of the humor on stage was missing in the film. And yet the adaptation took a heavy point of view to the play's content, went with it, shed the New York Jewish schtick and accomplished what it set out to do. Highlight for me is the Chava Ballet. Stunning in every aspect. Far superior to the stage version (saw Zero M in a revival btw).
