Probably for the same reason they didn't bring Tim Allen back for the voice, whatever that reason is.

The movie's about Buzz Lightyear the man, not the toy...

Wonder why they didn't just go with Randy Newman, he hasn't retired has he?

Probably for the same reason they didn't bring Tim Allen back for the voice, whatever that reason is.

And the director previously worked with Giacchino on another Toy Story short.

Also John Lasseter is no longer at Pixar to vouch for Randy. That man was clearly a fan.

Disney owns Pixar now, there seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere...

These are the films made after Disney bought Pixar.
Pretty much every single one of them is highly rated and highly successful.
The only quibble might be The Good Dinosaur, which was a stumble, but I liked it.
The idea that Pixar films went in the dumper after Disney bought it is just silly.

Up
Toy Story 3
Cars 2
Brave
Monsters University
Inside Out
The Good Dinosaur
Finding Dory
Cars 3
Coco
Incredibles 2
Toy Story 4
Onward
Soul

Absolutely right, Ado. The "Big Bad Disney Is Stupid" argument is a very lazy internet trope. It's also pliable enough that it can be used to argue any side of the debate, both "of course they're doing it the same tired way" and "of course they're too clueless to do it the established way."

Giacchino is no favorite of mine (though of his scores, the Pixars are the ones I like most), but the people at Pixar clearly enjoy working with him, and his scores for them have earned two Oscar nominations and one win, so I'm not sure what exactly they've done wrong here.

I'm not sold on this movie yet, but from the trailer, it's clear they're going for something tonally completely different from the Toy Story movies, so it would actually seem a bit lazy to me to choose Randy Newman for this one (though I'd personally be more interested to hear how he approached it).

Thanks Shiffy,

Yes Disney is so massively successful that they are an easy target to beat up on. They certainly do not do everything right. They get beat on for Star Wars as well, but I do not really want to talk about the live action wing so much.

I do feel a little sad that not a single Disney family member is anywhere in leadership anymore. On the other hand animation has prospered substantially through Disney over the years, through some tough patches when it did not. If you think about stripping out all the Disney content and being left with mostly Dreamworks animation, not such a good thing.

As for this picture, it seems like kind of treating a live action story through animation, which may be pretty cool. And Giacchino turned in some pretty good little scores with Up and Cars 2, so it makes sense to me.

I know, I was just trying to find something to hang Buzz Lightyear's famous quote on.

All the Pixar movies have always been distributed by Disney from the beginning. And Pixar had really only made 6 movies by the time Disney bought them. I can't vouch for all of them but Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up, Toy Story 3, Inside Out, and Coco have all been quite good. Pixar has always been quite independent and self-sufficient.

Speaking about this realistically I do think Disney doesn't have the independent creative drive it used to and functions more as a steward for film productions which I think does a decently good job of giving its filmmakers the freedom to make their stuff.

The stuff actually coming from Disney Animation Studios has been surprising. I was very surprised that WRECK IT RALPH had been a Disney film.

Maybe he has you blocked so he didn't see you posted it? Just a thought...

On an on topic note...I am looking forward to the movie AND the score.

It's been a normal thing for a few years now to have digital singles like that.

"Mission Infinite" doesn't sound as close to "Mission: Impossible"....

The artwork of most Pixar physical releases suck.

Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, Brave, A Bug's Life, ect... are some exceptions.
I just don't understand why they use the title of the movie on a physical release as artwork, knowing that these animated movies have such beautiful cinematography.
