Thanks for the overview, Laurent. I am more and more convinced that the source for this Frémeaux double CD were the BNF digital downloads which are available on all digital platforms and of course also on Youtube. For example, L´UNIVERS D´UTRILLO was at first available in 1956 on the Vega LP "25 Ans de Musique de Cinéma". The suite with short narration at the beginning by Lucien Adés was conducted by Serge Baudo. And of course there is also a BNF transfer of this LP so that you can find the Jarre piece also on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuIiQf3ee60 This is the 5`26 version with short narration which Frémeaux has quite certainly copied.
You have to keep in mind that MORT, OÙ EST TA VICTOIRE? had been released in January 1964 and therefore is out of the game for Frémeaux as the music is not public domain here in Europe. And the BNF has also not digitally transferred this disc as they only did this with records which were released between 1949 and 1962.
And my third annotation concerns the music for LES YEUX SANS VISAGE: There was never an EP for this score as you have suggested above. It could be that an EP had been planned in 1960 by Vega (in the 1980s there were some rumours among Jarre collectors about a possible EP which could never be verified), but was then never officially released. So we can assume that Stéphane Lerouge maybe found a planned EP album master with those 12:38 minutes in the Vega archives which he could then use for his PlayTime CD in the mid 90s. But as there was no EP, Frémeaux of course couldn´t copy it from a BNF template.

In trying to compare the different recordings, I indeed forgot to check a few facts such as the release date of the movie MORT, OÙ EST TA VICTOIRE ? Also my mistake about LES YEUX SANS VISAGE: since Cinémusique proposed it as download, I assumed there was initially an EP. It's very tricky to say the least for someone like me who is no Jarre specialist, and traps can hide everywhere !
It is obvious from the start that all the material on this set has been ripped either from vinyl, from digital download releases or from CD. Frémeaux just takes advantage of the public domain status of all the scores on these CDs - in the same way as they did it for Delerue or Jarre.
The Rota set will contain these scores:
- WAR AND PEACE (probably ripped from the Varèse CD) - LE NOTTI DI CABIRIA (ripped from the 1957 French Pathé EP or rather from the BNF digital release and not from the Legend CD) - PLEIN SOLEIL (ripped from the 1960 French Versailles EP or rather from the BNF digital release and not from the Universal CD) - LA DOLCE VITA (probably ripped from the CAM CD) - IL BRIGANTE (copied either from the 1982 Cerberus LP or even more easily from Disques Cinémusique´s 2016 digital rip-off of that LP) - ROCCO E I SUOI FRATELLI (probably ripped from the CAM CD if not from Quartet´s disc 2 of the score) - BOCCACCIO 70 (maybe copied from the old RCA LP as only those LP tracks have been used and not all the ones from the GDM CD)
IL BRIGANTE is the only score of these which has not yet been available on CD - so maybe the set will be interesting for those who don´t have that LP, but all the other Rota fans certainly won´t need it as it is full of silly and unnecessary rip-offs. I don´t think that anything on this CD set has been correctly licensed.
