Heaven forbid Alan Silvestri get to score another Predator film.
I get the feeling he doesn’t really want to. He seems to be totally absorbed by his BTTF musical lately.
Yeah, I wouldn't expect he'd be particularly interested. Also, this is a relatively inexpensive film, and they went with a relatively inexpensive composer. That's not a knock on the film or Schachner, it's just how this works.
Indeed. Alan Silvestri demands a big budget. This is a job, at the end of the day, and Silvestri is a master of the craft and not affordable in many ways for smaller movies.
There is some great potential here for an interesting score. wondering if she was able to apply some indigenous music using First Nations musicians for this. That might be too literal but it would be cool to hear that contrasted with otherworldly material for the Predator.

Badass cover! Anyone know if this is planned for a CD release?
Fingers crossed, as all the other scores in the series are on disc. As an aside, I am seeing "Prey" tonight at a screening at the Aero theater, in Santa Monica, with cast & crew Q&A - super excited!

The previews on iTunes sound promising. She seemed to get the brief and didn't rely on Silvestri's material for this new score. Will give it more of a listen tomorrow and when I see the film
Of course she had to follow the modern-day template, otherwise she would have been fired and they would have just re-hired someone else to programme a score from their phone, but from the cues I've played so far, I quite like what I've been hearing...
Some of the more percussive tracks recall Horner to me (THUNDERHEART, THE MISSING).

I'm with you, Kev! It feels modern, yet also a throwback in some ways. I like it, and I'm honestly pretty interested to see the movie and appreciate the score in context...
Saw this on the big screen last night. Pretty much rocked and the audience loved it! Pity it will NEVER AGAIN PLAY IN A THEATER!
Ugh. Streaming.
Music was GREAT, very "Mohican's-esque with the added bonus of a few uses of the Silvestri Predator theme and of course modern, generic action stuff -- but all-in-all a really memorable job by a relative newcomer.
And yes, they say the line: "If it bleeds, we can kill it."
Also apparently for those super into authenticity there is a version dubbed into Commanche!

Another move from the Netflix playbook: make sure that the film qualifies for Oscar season by screening it in a theater before it launches on the streaming platform. Smart.
