Playing the CDs now (each runs a little over 40 mins, for a 87 min total). It's unlikely to win over any folks who didn't connect with the previous films/scores. Certain tracks meander and bubble slowly, while the high points are typical JNH, evoking rasping fury and delicate beauty in equal measure, while still playing in that rustic/folk-like idiom of the previous films. I won't bother seeing the film, as I'd grown bored of the franchise, during the last two films, having enjoyed the first two. I was relieved when it finally ended. This one, at 2hrs 40 mins, is just too much time for this ageing film goer/watcher and none of the clips or previews have enticed me to give it a whirl. I'll enjoy playing this 2CD set though and whittling it into a more enjoyable 40-50 minute programme of My Highlights.

Although the 3 FANTASTIC BEASTS scores completely won me over, despite the films being complete bore-jobs, I'm afraid this score hasn't had quite the same effect on me. I did enjoy the scores for the first 3 stories (spread over 4 films) but I can't hear much inspiration from JNH for this prequel series (?). It rises up a few times in power or fury, in typical JNH fashion, but it doesn't leave behind any new, memorable themes to savour like the first series did. I thought a revisit, after a period of time and dust settling, might help me hear things anew, but it's as lacklustre (for the most part) as it was on my first play throughs. I have attempted a whittle, but even that was a struggle (and the question marks on some cues means I'm still not 100% sure they're worth the carry-over to my digitals). CD1 2. "Anthem: Gem of Panem" 0:43 3. "Coryo in the Capitol" 0:44 5. "Meet the Mentor" 2:01 8. "Hunger Is a Weapon" 2:43 ??? 12. "Saving Snow" 1:23 13. "Ideas Firing" 4:23 ??? 14. "Happy Hunger Games" 3:29 15. "Mercy" 2:21 16. "Seize the Opportunity" 1:18 17. "Cut the Feed" 1:27 18. "Open the Gate" 3:46 ??? 20. "Afraid of Water" 1:19 CD2 1. "Drone Attack" 3:20 3. "Under the Flag" 2:55 6. "Get Her Out" 3:44 9. "You Are Safe" 1:46 17. "Snow Lands on Top" 3:29 18. "Three Solos for Yuja: I. Friendship" 2:05 Run Time = 41 mins (approx with 'maybe's' included) Any fans out there?

It worked well for me in the film, which was very good (apart from the rushed third act -- this actually SHOULD have been two movies, IMO). But I confess I tried it on album once and it was kinda in one ear and out the other. Yavar
