Neil, I have no doubt great care and attention has gone into the pressing of these LPs by Quartet and all the people involved. My problems stem from all those years (roughly 1977 to 1987) of hearing the stylus meet the vinyl and the potential (surface and otherwise) noises that would ensue* in comparison to 1987 and beyond, when I would press play on my CD player and hear a world of difference. I know many people love vinyl and hear more warmth and such like, and more power to them, but once I met CDs, there was no going back. *that's not to say all LPs I bought sounded bad, cos plenty sounded very good indeed., but never as clean or clear as CD, by direct comparison. Idem. At the time of LPs the first thing I did was transfer them to K7s to avoid the increasing surface noise that even cleaning the lps could not prevent. Cds were a blessing. Some years ago I purchased a good record-player for nostalgia factor and some new LPs of favorite scores like Jaws, LLL Star Trek, the Star Wars scores, Troll, Halloween III, Hellraiser and others, they’re beautifull but in fact I do not listen to then except on rare ocasions as I prefer the more practical, clean and dinamic sound of the CDs (and of the losseles rips in my library). But these Rambo vinyls are beautifull really and tempting as a collectible item.

The Rambo series was always a stretch for me. Great music, dubious storytelling in my opinion. The Rambo: First Blood Part II CD release from Intrada was the last word in Rambo scoring for me. All the same, I'm happy as a clam that Goldsmith-on-vinyl fans will get this unexpected package, and the price seems right-on for its market. The sound and notes will be first rate, I'm sure.

By the power vested in me as producer of this new set, I would request that all discussions of formats be taken elsewhere. We all have feelings about analog vs. digital and it's a valid conversation, but this thread should be on the merits of the terrific music and the deluxe packaging and Jeff's new notes. Oh, and order numbers and whether an order has shipped yet or not. Thanks! Neil Treading lightly here Neil because the set looks fantastic but have you rectified the issue from the last Intrada release in terms of the speed? I have discovered that all of the tracks run slightly faster than the score as heard in the film and on the Varese release. On most tracks, it's not really noticeable but it's obvious in the second half of "Hanging On" which should be a more deliberate tempo as it is in the film.

For Rambo 2 I preferred the 35mm mixes for certain tracks over the first disc presentation. The village (camp) attack by helicopter and the river crash sounded better. Curious what has been done for these LP sets to further improve this score in particular. On a similar track, I still prefer the old Varese mix of "Stories" which doesn't end with the big snare drum pattern I like the clarity of the Intrada but the Varese recording is more faithful to the tempo of the original score as it appears in the film.
