Neil, I have no doubt great care and attention has gone into the pressing of these LPs by Quartet and all the people involved.
My problems stem from all those years (roughly 1977 to 1987) of hearing the stylus meet the vinyl and the potential (surface and otherwise) noises that would ensue* in comparison to 1987 and beyond, when I would press play on my CD player and hear a world of difference.
I know many people love vinyl and hear more warmth and such like, and more power to them, but once I met CDs, there was no going back.

*that's not to say all LPs I bought sounded bad, cos plenty sounded very good indeed., but never as clean or clear as CD, by direct comparison.

Idem. At the time of LPs the first thing I did was transfer them to K7s to avoid the increasing surface noise that even cleaning the lps could not prevent. Cds were a blessing.
Some years ago I purchased a good record-player for nostalgia factor and some new LPs of favorite scores like Jaws, LLL Star Trek, the Star Wars scores, Troll, Halloween III, Hellraiser and others, they’re beautifull but in fact I do not listen to then except on rare ocasions as I prefer the more practical, clean and dinamic sound of the CDs (and of the losseles rips in my library).

But these Rambo vinyls are beautifull really and tempting as a collectible item.

By the power vested in me as producer of this new set, I would request that all discussions of formats be taken elsewhere. We all have feelings about analog vs. digital and it's a valid conversation, but this thread should be on the merits of the terrific music and the deluxe packaging and Jeff's new notes.

Oh, and order numbers and whether an order has shipped yet or not. wink

Thanks!

Neil

Sorry Neil. I'm sure these are fantastic.

Even not a fan of the format I'm tempted to order - I love Renato Casaro's artwork and buyed a Conan vinyl for it (but need to check from which retailer as Quartet is not shipping to my country apparently - had to order Sonja and Day of The Dolphin from Intrada) - BTW would love a Red Sonja vinyl with the original Casaro's art.

The Rambo series was always a stretch for me. Great music, dubious storytelling in my opinion. The Rambo: First Blood Part II CD release from Intrada was the last word in Rambo scoring for me.

All the same, I'm happy as a clam that Goldsmith-on-vinyl fans will get this unexpected package, and the price seems right-on for its market.

The sound and notes will be first rate, I'm sure.

Treading lightly here Neil because the set looks fantastic but have you rectified the issue from the last Intrada release in terms of the speed? I have discovered that all of the tracks run slightly faster than the score as heard in the film and on the Varese release. On most tracks, it's not really noticeable but it's obvious in the second half of "Hanging On" which should be a more deliberate tempo as it is in the film.

I wonder if First Blood on vinyl has reduced the sound of hiss that Intradas latest release has. I know there are limitations to mastering a score so old but man that analog hiss takes me right out of enjoying it.

For First Blood it seems like 'A Close Shave' (The Razor) has some extra material at the start of the cue. Also the pause in 'Hanging On' at :30 has been extended out as it appears in the film. Really makes a difference!
I'm wondering what other little micro corrections are hiding here.
Any chance this presentation will appear on CD? Or at least a download?

For Rambo 2 I preferred the 35mm mixes for certain tracks over the first disc presentation. The village (camp) attack by helicopter and the river crash sounded better. Curious what has been done for these LP sets to further improve this score in particular.

On a similar track, I still prefer the old Varese mix of "Stories" which doesn't end with the big snare drum pattern

I like the clarity of the Intrada but the Varese recording is more faithful to the tempo of the original score as it appears in the film.

Is the "First Blood" track expanded somehow? Looks a good 20 seconds longer than the last release.

Also, will these presentations be available digitally at some point?

Once again, this could be a case of the breather between "They drew first blood...." and the awesome military drum motif being extended out as it is in the film.
This would be a real shame if this presentation is not available digitally in some form.

I considered that too, but it's quite the gap

It looks like an amazing package no doubt. I'm glad Quartet is releasing gems like this. I do hope down the road that this paves the way for a CD release. That's all I'm saying about that. smile

I cannot speak for the sequels but First Blood was mastered at a faster speed than the film. I was hoping the newer Quartet master from the 2 track fixed that problem. Anyhow, that's another discussion for another thread.

Congrats Quartet and everyone who jumped on this wonderful package!

Good to see it is selling well. Unfortunately it seems I will not be able to order it. Used to buy some titles directly from Quartet but now there's no shipping options to Brazil (although they ship with DHL to other South American countries such as Argentina and Chile).
Have e-mailed them three times already about shipping options, but no reply so far...
