Are we not allowed to like this movie anymore because of Kevin Spacey? Will the film never get a 4k UHD release because of Kevin Spacey? Will Spacey's face be digitally replaced at some time in the future because of Kevin Spacey? Thank goodness we still have CHINATOWN. Oh ... No. You can still like whatever you like. It's just that good people tend to acknowledge the scumbags in life. But, no. Don't worry. You're not being "cancelled," as if that's a real thing.

Not sure if you noticed, but Polanski's excellent, award-winning J'ACCUSE/AN OFFICER AND A SPY is simply not available in the English-speaking world. Not even on disc. I call that cancellation. And while one can never countenance what Polanski did 45 years ago, all rational and intelligent people should be disturbed by a sudden cult of judgmental moralism that sees a man truned into a pariah by many of the same people who not long ago were awarding him an Oscar.

It's already available on Qobuz, so I'll listen to it later today.

Downloaded it - and, wow, finally the score can breathe and give much more of its already powerful impression than on the MUCH to short previous release. This is a marvelous score, definitely one of Goldsmith's best in his later career.

The complete score really gives me a new appreciation for it.

This is a marvelous score, definitely one of Goldsmith's best in his later career. I always liked the score, it's a Goldsmith score, sure, so it's good and worth listening, "Bloody Christmas" is a hell of a great track, but I found scores like HOLLOW MAN, DEEP RISING, STAR TREK - NEMESIS, etc. more interesting as pure stand alone listening. Of course, L.A. CONFIDENTIAL is a much better movie than any of those. Probably the last genuine "classy" (and classic) movie Goldsmith scored. L.A. CONFIDENTIAL was the best film of the year and should have won the Academy Award for "Best Picture".

I like the first one better. Agreed. Best of the bunch.

DAMMIT! I got the song album just because the Badge Of Honor theme was on it... now this release finally has it! We couldn't include "Badge Of Honor" on this album because of a rights issue. Hold onto the song album! Yeah, follow Neil's advice, and if you don't have it, the songtrack album is great in its own right, so if you're actually on that "...for just 20 seconds of music?" fence, it has other pleasures. And right now it starts as low as $1.50 here: https://www.discogs.com/master/585098-Various-LA-Confidential-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack
