Tried to purchase the original cd from Amazon yesterday. Luckily a glitch prevented me from getting free shipping. So, I cancelled the transaction and was about to try again this morning but, decided to check the latest news on fsm…Serendipity!
Thank you LaLa Land!

Really exciting news. A classic score from one of the greatest films of all time. Huge thanks to Neil and the whole La La Land “family.”

A truly amazing and very long-awaited release. I'm surprised by the sum of unused material, which will be thrilling to hear.

I remember in the 1980s searching for this (and its sequel) on LP, and being thrilled when I found it, if a bit disappointed that it sounded like it was recorded in somebody's closet. When the CD came out, I was equally excited, but the sound quality was about the same. I'm sure there were limitations in the original recording, but with Chris Malone mastering, I'm sure it'll sound the best it's ever sounded. Can't wait to get this!

Agree with Schiffy. At least three of these releases are instant purchases for me, and possibly a fourth as well. (AND I still need to buy How The Grinch Stole Christmas).

This one, however, is the absolute _must_ for me.

Thrilled with this, will enjoy this and hope Part II follows in due course, though the 50th Anniversary will be in 2024.

The original recorded tracks sound absolutely pristine - the 1972 OST was not reflective of the quality of the recording. Chris did an excellent job on the mix, and Doug Schwartz did a wonderful job on the mastering.

Love to hear that!

Spectacular news. I’ve wondered about this since the music in the remastered film sounds so much better than the soundtrack album which I have purchased in the past as a download. Definite buy for me.

I tried to resist the other year, but eventually caved and bought GBU, Midnight Cowboy and A Bridge Too Far; I can see something similar happening with TND and The Godfather.

Although I should get a better player first….

Dilemma on dilemma!

I’m in for the Godfather too. GBU and Midnight Cowboy were great releases. Especially Midnight Cowboy. Not a lot of extra music but really shows the power of Barry’s beautiful theme. I don’t have the attachment to the Bond’s score beyond Connery that the younger generation does but I understand their appeal.

I have the feeling that the organ music featured in "The Baptism" (expanded) isn't the same version as heard in the film. As far as I can tell the film version is an arrangement of J.S. Bach's Passacaglia in C minor - played very slowly, mixed with the Prelude and fugue in D major. Nino Rota's version is losely based on both of the aforementioned pieces by Bach but he inserted bits from the Godfather theme in his arrangement.
Does anyone know why Rota's version was replaced for the film?

What? You bought your CDP only a year or two back! I have to be cautious about replacing Hi-Fi components which are 8yrs+ old ... I wish you luck! smile

I'll admit that these two expansions are very tempting ...

Two reasons, Mitch …

Our new BT hub now sits on the top of the tv cabinet, being long and shallow (much like me), so I have room for a full-size player now in the cabinet.

Also, the little Tangent one I got from Richer Sounds is fine but fairly limited. However, with a little more investment I can use it in my home office, which is more suited to a mini system.

All the more reason to move over to streaming ... you'll never look back smile I sold my CDP (17+ yrs old) earlier this year ... I have no intention of replacing it.

Back to Maestro Rota ... it took me a long time to warm to this score (I didn't see the film until about 20 years ago), probably put-off by a so-so cover recording which my father had bought (MFP label) and, of course, our Hi-Fi back in the 1970s was rather basic. Now it's a score I enjoy greatly, as I do much of Rota's output.

This is very exciting news. These are tracks I've been waiting to see unearthed and well-mastered for a long time.

I'm pleased to hear the '70s OST albums aren't truly representative of the original recording quality.

Considering the general excellence of the music presence in Godfather I & II, I'd always suspected as much.

So excited about this release (and all the others in this year's LLL lineup)! I've always regarded "The Pick-Up" as one of my favorite score pieces not featured in its respective film - can't wait to see what else was jettisoned! Not to mention hearing details and clarity of the entire score restored! I very much look forward re-discovering this one. Many thanks for tackling this, LLL!

Chris Malone is an excellent engineer and is a friend- to whom I must return him a service someday wink Chris totally believes in maintaining the original aural sound of the recording stage. Iam super sure he has done an outstanding job on the restoration and it will be a revelation for all of you. Looking forward to it so eagerly. Hold on to my cannoli.big grin
