Glad that BABYLON got a score nod but too bad "My Girl's Pussy" failed to get a song nomination, that I would've loved to have seen live.

This score and film is terrible just come back from watching 3hrs and 9mins of complete self indulgence from the over rated director. Justin Hurwitz's score has no substance and the use of classical pieces in certain scenes are lazy.
The thematic material does come close to ripping himself off with tones of la la land. It should not have won the golden globe for music i do not know what the foreign press were thinking. and that song mentioned above is trying to please a certain demographic. This is my opinion only. Go and see it and make your own mind up.

On top of the over-length, over-indulgence and over-scoring, the film's story concerns Hollywood transitioning from silent films to talkies. That’s Singin’ in the Rain. We have Singin’ in the Rain at home. (Seriously, if you don’t have Singin’ in the Rain at home, you need to do a thorough rethink of your life choices.)

P.S. Walk Hard’s “Let’s Duet” > “My Girl’s Pussy”.

Agreed regarding the use of classical pieces. There’s so much material here that it ultimately may not matter, but I wonder how many Academy voters will recognize how indebted one of the best cues- “Hearst Party”- is to Ravel’s Bolero. I hear plenty of La La Land in the score to Babylon, and I also hear John Williams’s Nice to Be Around in Hurwitz’s “Gold Coast Rhythm-Wallach Party,” “Gold Coast Sunset,” and “Gold Coast Rhythm - Jack’s Party.” As chaotic and excessive as the jazz pieces often are, they tend to be some of the more original material in the Babylon score.

I can’t say I enjoyed Desplat’s score to Pinocchio that much, although I’d say the songs shouldn’t have been entirely overlooked by the Academy. Other than John Williams’s score for The Fabelmans, my favorite of the nominated scores is probably Carter Burwell’s for The Banshees of Inisherin. For the sheer quantity, variety, and energy of the music in both Babylon and Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, I don’t begrudge their nominations. But I’ll be disappointed if either wins.

I hope for Carter Burwell this year. I guess he hasn't won an Oscar before?
